Your smartwatch is helpful – but it's not a substitute for proper cardiac care. ⌚💗
Wearable devices like smartwatches have become popular health tools, but it's important to understand their limitations. While FDA-approved for specific uses, these devices are really only reliable for two things: monitoring heart rate and detecting atrial fibrillation.
At Conway Medical Center, we use smartwatch alerts as a screening tool – a helpful first step, not a final diagnosis. If your device flags a potential issue, we follow up with sophisticated clinical monitoring like patch monitors for accurate assessment.
The good news? Cardiac care has evolved dramatically:
🏥 Advanced CT Technology - We've moved from stress testing to CT-based diagnostics for more accurate coronary artery disease detection
🩺 Minimally Invasive Procedures - Stents and percutaneous valve procedures mean fewer patients need traditional open-heart surgery
⚡ Improved Device Therapy - Modern pacemakers and defibrillators are smaller, smarter, and easier for patients
Your heart health deserves more than a notification. If your smartwatch alerts you to a problem, don't ignore it – but don't rely on it alone either.
