Behind every workforce statistic is a real person.

Someone who was once counted out.
Someone who faced addiction or involvement with the justice system.
Someone who just needed a second chance.

And today… they’re showing up.
They’re working.
They’re rebuilding trust and creating stability for themselves and their families.

That kind of transformation doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens through intentional investment—recovery support, peer mentorship, and long-term follow-up.

When we invest in recovery, we’re not just changing lives—
we’re strengthening our workforce and our communities. 💙

✨Meet Our Certified Peer Recovery Specialists!✨

Meet Crystal Lawson, Dekalb County CPRS

Here’s a little Q&A to get to know Crystal better!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from?
A: I’m from Lebanon, Tennessee, but I live in Smithville Tennessee now. I am happily married and I have six kids.

Q: What was your path to the UC Recovery team?
A: My journey to joining the UC Recovery team was driven by a desire to help individuals struggling with addiction find the support and resources they need. I was introduced to this opportunity by Mr. Farley, and after several email exchanges, I was fortunate to find my place here.

Q: What inspired you to pursue this specific role?
A: I had the opportunity to tour the newly opened women’s UC Recovery House in DeKalb County. During my visit, Mr. Farley walked me through the program and shared details about the work they were building. He provided me with his contact information and encouraged me to apply for the position.

Q: Is there anyone you’d like to thank for helping you reach this milestone?
A: I would like to express my sincere appreciation to James Gribble for his continued support and guidance as I’ve learned and grown in this role. I’m also grateful to Melissa Hoisington for the opportunity to serve in this position.

Q: What is your goal with this chapter?
A: My goal is to reach more people and have more success stories!

Thank you, Crystal, for your dedication and hard work. We’re grateful to have you on our team and truly appreciate all you do! 👏💙

Words matter. The way we talk about recovery matters even more.

For too long, individuals with lived experience have been defined by labels that don’t reflect their strength, growth, or potential. It’s time to change that.

Recovery is not a label—it’s a journey. It’s resilience. It’s hope. It’s people rewriting their stories every single day.

Let’s commit to changing the narrative. Let’s lead with compassion, understanding, and respect.

This week, our team had the opportunity to attend the RX Summit in Nashville—an incredible national platform dedicated to advancing solutions for individuals in recovery.

Throughout the conference, we gained valuable insights into innovative approaches for delivering comprehensive support services, while also learning from communities across the country that are making a real difference.

We were especially proud to showcase UC Recovery Connect in the exhibit hall. Program Manager Brittany Patton and CPRS Tabitha Swaffer did an outstanding job representing our program, sharing our story, and connecting with attendees from across the nation.

Opportunities like this reinforce the importance of collaboration, innovation, and dedicated staff. With a passionate team behind it, UC Recovery Connect is well-positioned to continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.

✨Meet Our Certified Peer Recovery Specialists!✨

Meet Arianna Foster, Clay County CPRS

Here’s a little Q&A to get to know Arianna better!

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from?
A: Hi! I’m Arianna. I was born in Indiana, but was raised in Jamestown, Tenn. I enjoy spending time with my husband and my three dogs.

Q: What was your path to the UC Recovery team?
A: I took several paths where I landed in Early Childhood Education for 11 years and then I worked with PCSS for 3 years before I ended up with UC Recovery.

Q: What inspired you to pursue this specific role?
A: Since I was 16 years old, I knew my calling was to work with individuals struggling with mental health and substance misuse. Addiction and untreated mental illness have touched my life for as long as I can remember, including my own personal battles. Those experiences shaped a deep passion in me to help others who are walking the same road. Recovery is possible, and I’m proud to say that this August I will celebrate 14 years of sobriety.

Q: Is there anyone you’d like to thank for helping you reach this milestone?
A: I’m deeply thankful for my team and for the individuals who interviewed me and saw past the timid and nervous version of myself to recognize my potential. I’m also forever grateful for my small circle and support system who have walked beside me through both the highs and the lows of my sobriety and healing journey. All of those moments and the people who supported me along the way have helped shape where I am today.

Q: What is your goal with this chapter?
A: My goal with UC Recovery is to continue to work with my clients and walk beside them on their journey. To make a difference in the life of even just one person is the ultimate goal.

Thank you, Arianna, for your dedication and hard work. We’re grateful to have you on our team and truly appreciate all you do! 👏💙

Every community is asking the same question right now:
Where do we find reliable workers?

Part of the answer is right in front of us.

Individuals in recovery bring:
• Resilience
• A deep commitment to change
• A readiness for opportunity

What they need are strong support systems to help them take that next step.

Programs like UC Recovery Connect are showing what’s possible. When we invest in recovery infrastructure, we’re not just helping individuals rebuild their lives—we’re creating a pipeline of dedicated, capable people ready to contribute to our workforce.

Recovery isn’t a cost. It’s a workforce strategy.

At some point, trying to do it alone just stops working.

You tell yourself you’ve got it.
You try to manage it.
You try to push through.

But the weight doesn’t lift.

You weren’t meant to carry this by yourself.

Restored is a place where people come as they are and take that next step—together.

If you’re still fighting, you’re not disqualified.

Come sit with us tomorrow.
