The Allina Women Empowered (AWE) Employee Resource Group hosted a Period Kit Packing event in mid-October with nonprofit Period Kit MN, where over 60 volunteers worked to assemble kits for distribution.

The effort produced 1,000 kits, which offer a 30-day supply of menstrual health items to community members who are experiencing poverty, homelessness or unstable housing.

Gratitude takes on a new meaning this season for Dr. Joseph Decker, electrophysiologist with Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute. Recently Dr. Decker teamed up with his father, Francis Decker from Medtronic, to perform a heart procedure together at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

Dr. Decker’s inspiration to become a doctor started within his family -- his grandfather, a physician, his brother, also a physician at Allina Health, and father who works in cardiac ablation mapping. Having an opportunity to work with his father was truly special for both and reminds us work and family can truly go hand in hand.

These pictures were taken four years to the day, David Schut survived a stroke.

As you can imagine, it changed his life forever.

Thanks to his fortitude, his wife, Gin, and his care team at Allina Health Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, he’s spent every day since working hard to get back some of what he lost.

Now, as a film crew captured, he’s biking, swimming and working toward his goal of running long distances.

Our communities are experiencing significantly higher levels of food insecurity. In keeping with Allina Health’s mission, vision, and values, our care team members continue to step up—volunteering their time, energy, and resources to help bridge the gap.

Last week, our Community Benefit and Engagement team partnered with The Food Group to pack and process meals, along with providing a $250 donation to help ensure our neighbors have access to healthy, nutritious food this season.
