Fooooood Fight!!
Some people wind down their week with a quiet cup of coffee or tea.
At the Griggs County Care Center, we end our Friday by putting on plastic bags, donning bonnets, dumping Fiddle Faddle, Jelly Beans and Cheetos across tables like confetti, and spraying whipped cream on each other's heads.
Because why not?
After spending 11 months together—laughing, crying, growing, surviving, and occasionally wanting to throw a slipper at life—we decided today was the day to let those frustrations out. Loudly! Joyfully! And preferably in the form of airborne cheese puffs.
So we gathered our residents, suited them up in their high-fashion plastic attire, crowned them with whipped-cream bonnets, and declared-
"THIS is the moment to yell, to laugh, and to throw Cheetos at each other like the glorious chaos goblins God made us to be."
And oh my word… the laughter!
The shrieks.
The whipped cream in places whipped cream isn't usually at!
We will humbly ask forgiveness from the laundry ladies on Monday.
(We can confirm that some residents interpreted “aim for the bonnet” as “aim for the forearm, shirt collar, and possibly your neighbor’s glasses or noses.”)
One resident decided that throwing Cheetos was a waste of perfectly good snacks and ate her ammunition instead.
Even our fellas joined full-force — and some of those smiles were the biggest we’ve seen in months.
But the best part?
When the whipped cream settled, we gathered in the main living room for the most impromptu, soul-filling sing-along.
You Are My Sunshine.
She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain.
And (of course) I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.
Voices rose. Feet tapped. Memories woke up. Carol R. was totally in her zone! After all... She was one of the original Sheyenne Country Girls from the group!
And the whole place felt like home — the kind of home where joy is messy, laughter is medicine, and every day is a gift on this North Dakota prairie.
To our staff-you are fearless, fun, and full of heart.
To our residents-you are the sunshine in this building and the reason we show up with smiles.
What a perfect way to end a Friday at GCCC — a place where life is never boring, always blessed, and often covered in whipped cream.
Thank you for entrusting us with their care!
