Here are some Halloween tips from Dr. Gary Kramer to keep your children safe while trick-or-treating:
I always tell parents that the peak "season" for allergies, accidents, and injuries is between Halloween and New Year's Eve, as it is during these times that we are eating different things in different places and distracted with much going on around us.
Physical safety is one of our greatest concerns. While walking outdoors in the evening with our children, oftentimes with masks and costumes that impair our ability to see, we must take great caution to keep our children by our side and hold their hands.
As for allergies, children receive random varieties of candies and foods, parents must be certain to sort through the goods to be certain that none of the items contain potential allergens that their children may have an issue with. This includes any baked goods they may come in contact with. Oftentimes, baked goods and items that are brought in may contain peanuts, eggs, food colorings, or other components to which a child is allergic. Beyond foods, children may often have reactions to makeup and face paints that they use for their costumes.
Lastly, a reminder about choking hazards. It is important to be sure that your little ones are not in possession of any items that might be potential choking hazards. This includes foods and toys alike. Watch out for especially hard candies and small toys.
Most important: Have fun and be SAFE🎃
