Why do I require mammograms before breast surgery? ๐ฉบ
One of the most common questions I receive during consultations is about pre-operative screening requirements. Let me explain why this step is non-negotiable when it comes to your safety.
THE STATISTICS:
โข 1 in 7-8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer
โข Early detection is critical for successful treatment
โข Undiagnosed cancer + elective surgery = potentially catastrophic outcomes
WHY PRE-OPERATIVE SCREENING MATTERS:
If we perform breast surgery (augmentation, lift, reduction, or combination procedures) on a patient with undiagnosed breast cancer and inadvertently cut into cancerous tissue, we risk causing the spread of that cancer throughout the body.
OUR SCREENING PROTOCOL:
๐ Mammograms
๐ Ultrasounds
๐ MRIs (when indicated)
These diagnostic tools help us detect potential cancers that patients may not know about. Over the years, we have identified previously undiagnosed breast cancers through our pre-operative screening process...literally saving patients' lives before proceeding with elective procedures.
PATIENT SAFETY FIRST:
Every patient is unique, and your safety is always my top priority. While I understand that additional testing may seem inconvenient, these screenings exist solely for your protection and benefit.
If you're considering breast surgery, schedule a comprehensive consultation where we'll discuss your individualized surgical plan and all necessary pre-operative requirements.
