One of our biggest missions at Oak Therapy is to support families and educators in shifting the mindset from “fixing the child” to “fixing the environment.”

We hear it all the time — parents worried because their children aren’t meeting school expectations.

But the truth is:
the school isn’t meeting the child’s needs.

When a child is supported in the way they learn, the conversation changes completely.

For years, too much emphasis has been placed on the measurable things:
• reciting the ABCs
• writing their name
• answering questions
• math facts

And not enough focus has gone toward what truly nourishes them:
• self-esteem
• connection + relationships
• independence
• exploration
• creativity and play

It’s always tempting to focus on what’s easy to measure.
But just like a flower, without good soil, sunlight, and nourishment… true growth doesn’t happen. 🌱

Let’s shift together.
Let’s unlearn and re-learn.
Let’s keep creating spaces where children who learn differently feel safe, seen, and supported.

Let’s move, let’s play, let’s be present.
Let’s build environments where every child — every flower — can grow in their own beautiful way. ✨🌸

When your mom is a speech therapist 😛😅… here’s a super simple activity you can try with your little ones!

✨ Important Notes:
• There’s no age requirement for this type of play (cause-and-effect). If you’re both having fun, the play is boosting brain development.
• Kids can feel your energy. When you’re engaged, they’re more likely to be engaged too.
• Bilingualism is a superpower! Don’t let anyone tell you speaking two languages causes delays. It does not. 💛

🎒 For this activity you’ll need:
• You
• Your baby
• A Jack-in-the-Box or any cause-and-effect toy
• Coffee or an energy drink to hype you up (just kidding… kind of 😆)

But seriously — you’ll need presence, no screens, and genuine enjoyment.

💛 What we’re supporting:
• Engagement: Back-and-forth interactions built through predictability. These routines have a clear beginning, middle, and end — which helps little ones stay involved.
• Versatile words: We pair baby signs with spoken words to make language less abstract. You model repeated, simple, consistent language with zero pressure on your child to perform.

Designed for children ages 18 months to 5 years, our Intensive combines speech, language, and occupational therapy through play, movement, and sensory-rich experiences.

Each child receives an individualized plan that includes:

Wonder & Grow 🤸💛 Friends & Family Edition

Our Wonder & Grow class was designed to:
✨ Support caregivers in stimulating their baby’s development
✨ Create a safe space for caregivers to connect and feel supported
✨ Promote a sense of community and shared joy

This time, we launched a special Friends & Family Halloween Edition — inviting loved ones to join the experience

Class included 1 hour of guided activities followed by connection time, allowing caregivers to chat, bond, and enjoy quality time together.

During our session, we focused on:
🗣️ Early prelinguistic communication skills
🤸‍♀️ Motor development
👀 Joint attention and shared engagement

We loved seeing everyone come together to play, learn, and celebrate connection.
