During this deep plane facelift, we walked through something we come across often – old “dissolvable” threads from a previous thread lift. These treatments are marketed as minimally invasive options to lift the face, but they don’t always dissolve completely, and the results are usually short-lived.
When performing a facelift, we frequently find these threads embedded in the tissue. Sometimes they’re intact, sometimes surrounded by scar tissue, and occasionally they’ve shifted from where they were originally placed.
Thread lifts can offer a temporary boost for mild laxity, but they can’t address deeper structural aging – which is why many patients eventually choose a surgical approach. A deep plane facelift allows us to lift the underlying muscle layer, release the ligaments properly, and reposition the tissues in a way that looks natural and lasts.
If you’ve had threads in the past and are now considering a facelift, there’s no need to worry – it’s something we manage routinely. But it’s always helpful to have a consultation so we can discuss what’s in place and what the safest, most effective plan looks like moving forward.
