Namaste!
My staple workouts for the past few years were yoga practices, weight training, and spinning/running/walking. I always intended to have seasonal activities to prevent boredom, develop new skills, and add variety. I never did; I could not give up anything I liked that much, and I still do. However, living in the sunshine state finally got to me with the heat and humidity that makes it a challenge to be outside, and I am adding swimming to my routine while cutting a bit on walking and spinning. Day one was a success:
– I made it to the tryouts at 5:30 am, after weights and a 20-minute spinning session (not a good idea, I now know)
– I did not run away after I realized how HUGE the pool was as I ran out of breath on lap #1 (warm-up is 600 meters, so six(!!!) laps)
– Swimming is similar to yoga as it is a flow, and a lot depends on breathing, which makes me grateful that I practiced yoga with breathing for years (you see how one activity relates to another?)
– The coach said that he was impressed to see that I lasted that long :-)
Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope the one that will last this summer. By the way, the bonus - out of this world sunrise.
Here is to the new beginnings!
