Now offering VISIA Skin Analysis photography scans with all skin care consultations in the month of March!

Dermatology Associates patients are welcome to call our office 412-262-1064 and schedule a complimentary appointment with our skin care expert, Brooke.

How does VISIA skin analysis work?
Visia uses cutting-edge technologies to evaluate skin type, facial features, sun damage, and pigmentation in your skin. The system’s IntelliFlash cross-polarized UV light photography measures and records skin conditions both on the surface and under the skin surface. This allows your provider to assess sun damage. The system’s patented RBX technology separates red and brown colors in the skin to assess conditions such as hyperpigmentation, spider veins, and inflammatory changes.

Some of the common skin concerns that Visia skin analysis can detect include:
- Red spots (discoloration on and below the surface of the skin, which is distinct from the background skin tone and visible to the naked eye)
- Brown spots (age spots, moles, and freckles that cause an uneven texture due to increased melanin production)
- UV spots (marks that develop due to absorption of UV light by the melanin in the skin)
- Wrinkles (folds or creases in the skin that form due to sun exposure and decreased skin elasticity with age)
- Uneven texture (raised and depressed areas that make the skin look less smooth)
- Pores (openings of sweat glands in the skin that appear darker than the surrounding skin when enlarged)
- Erythema (red areas due to inflammation or spider veins)
- Porphyrins (bacteria lodged in pores)

A Visia scan just takes minutes and assesses the strengths and weaknesses of your skin and identifies areas that can benefit from cosmetic treatments. This greatly helps in selecting the best skin products for your skin health goals and enhances the outcomes of your skincare procedures.

What is a pediatric dermatologist?

A pediatric dermatologist cares for children (newborns through adolescents) with skin disorders. Pediatric dermatologists diagnose a wide variety of skin disorders including birthmarks (vascular and pigmented), skin infections, dermatitis (atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis), melanocytic nevi (moles), genodermatoses (inherited skin disorders), acneiform eruptions, rare forms of skin cancer, drug eruptions, viral exanthems, and collagen vascular disorders.

The Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD) has created a series of informative videos on skin care and common skin conditions. We hope families with children and teens find this information helpful!

Dermatology Associates of Western Pennsylvania is fortunate to have one of Pittsburgh's few board certified pediatric dermatologists! While Dr. Michael Osofsky welcomes patients of all ages, he is the practice's super-specialist when it comes to children under the age of 13 and their skin issues.

In today’s fast-paced, media-driven world, we face a barrage of advertisements, blogs, celebrity endorsements, and messages about what we should or should not do to achieve a healthy complexion. If you’re confused, you’re not alone.

While our physicians and staff will attempt to answer as many questions as possible during a medical visit, for an in-depth conversation about daily care, please schedule a professional consultation with our skincare specialist. She will customize a regimen that’s right for your skin and complements the physician’s medical treatments.

Brooke schedules complimentary patient appointments one day each month and educates patients of all ages.

ANTIOXIDANTS are a group of vitamins and minerals that minimize the process of oxidation, which in basic terms is a chemical reaction that occurs over time. In skin, oxidative stress contributes to the aging process, which manifests as wrinkles, sagging skin, loss of volume and more. Additionally, as skin ages, its ability to withstand environmental aggressors and to repair damage begins to deteriorate.

Incorporating antioxidants into your skincare regimen! Receive a complimentary travel sized Daily Power Defense when purchasing $150 in ZO Skin Health products in our office this fall!
