Kentucky Birth Coalition has been absolutely essential in getting licensing for Certified Professional Midwives in Kentucky this past year. The next step is birth centers. Did you know Kentucky has no freestanding birth centers in the state!? A few times a year KBC has an online auction to help fundraise. This is a great way to support midwifery care and birth options for Kentucky families.

If you have items or services you would like to donate to the fall auction visit their page, they’re accepting donations until November 14th. You can mail items directly to them or I can meet with you locally and mail them for you. The auction itself starts November 28th.

Donations requested by November 14. It is time once again for our most popular fundraiser! Our next online auction will be November 28 through December 5, 2020. Proceeds from the online auction pro…

I am unfortunately unable to take any new home birth clients at this time. I have recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which is causing some vascular issues. Over the next few months I will be working out my treatment plan and because there are so many unknowns right now as far as my response to and side effects from the medications I do not feel I can safely and reliable be on call for your births. I am so very sorry that I cannot serve you all at this time. Hopefully in a few months we can reevaluate and I will be able to step back into full midwifery practice.

Meanwhile, Kentucky Birth Coalition is working on a bill to eliminate the certificate of need required for CPMs to open birth centers in Kentucky! Birth centers would greatly increase access to midwifery care and home(like) births. Birth centers also make it easier for midwives to work in partnerships which greatly decreases the stress involved in private practice, may increase the number of midwives in an area, and would allow midwives like me to continue practicing while also caring for their own health. To get involved in this effort visit Kentucky Birth Coalition and write or call your representative to tell them how badly we need independent midwife run birth centers.

Water birth is amazing! Not only does laboring in water reduce pain and increase relaxation it can reduce your risk of first and second degree tears.

Did you have a water birth with any of your children? Is it something you have thought about for future births?

Researchers from the University of Michigan say the risk of infection and ICU admissions for newborns, and of postpartum hemmorhage for women, are the same

In America there are three primary kinds of midwives, Certified Nurse Midwives, Certified Professional Midwives, and Direct Entry Midwives. It’s kind of confusing, so here’s a fairly long explanation of the types of American midwives as well as a bit about my path and training as Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). The Early Years Let’s just start at the beginning. In the beginning there was your neighbor lady who had more babies than you did. [ 1,579 more word ]

Hello, I’m Audrey Stewart, and I’m the midwife at Cumberland Mountain Midwifery. I am a Certified Professional Midwife in Southeast Kentucky. I started my training as a midwife in 2012 and opened my practice in 2018.

I live out by Cumberland Falls with my wonderful husband and two lovely children (both born at home). We run Cumberland Falls Farm, a small (and ever expanding) farm and bluegill pay lake. We love being outside, whether gardening, exploring the woods, or kayaking on the river. I enjoy playing piano for our home church and ever improving on the homemaking arts; baking, canning, embroidery, those sorts of things.

I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which has caused some vascular problems. Over the next few months while we wait to see how I adjust to treatment and manage medication side effects I will not be able to attend births as I am not yet sure that I can guarantee I can be satisfactorily on call for you.

If you have any questions just call 606-523-2652, I’d be happy to talk with you.
