Wearing your contact lenses past their recommended time might seem harmless-but it can actually put your eyes at serious risk. Here's why it's important to follow the suggested replacement schedule:

👁️ Oxygen Flow Matters: Your eyes need oxygen to stay healthy. Over time, lenses accumulate buildup and block oxygen, which can lead to discomfort, redness, and long-term damage.

🦠 Avoid Infection: Old lenses can collect bacteria, protein deposits, and debris-even if you clean them. This raises your risk for eye infections like keratitis.

😣 Comfort Declines: Lenses are designed to perform optimally for a set time. Wearing them longer can cause dryness, irritation, and blurry vision.

🧼 Hygiene = Safety: Sticking to the replacement schedule is part of good contact lens hygiene. Whether it’s daily, bi-weekly, or monthly-following the timing helps keep your eyes safe and comfortable.

✅ Pro tip: Set a reminder on your phone or use a lens replacement app to stay on track!

Healthy habits = happy eyes.

February is ARMD Awareness Month!

Let’s talk about the leading cause of vision loss in adults over 50: Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD).

This silent, progressive disease affects your central vision-making everyday tasks like reading or recognizing faces more difficult over time.

💡 Know the risk factors:
✅ Age 50+
✅ Family history
✅ Smoking
✅ High blood pressure
✅ Prolonged sun exposure

👓 The good news?
Routine eye exams can catch early signs before symptoms appear-giving you a clearer path forward.

🗓 February is the perfect time to schedule your comprehensive eye exam and stay ahead of ARMD.

February is Black History Month, and we’re proud to honor the incredible contributions of African Americans in the field of optometry.

Despite facing systemic barriers, African American optometrists have broken through racial and professional ceilings, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable eye care community. Their impact continues to shape the future of vision care in meaningful ways.

Today, organizations like Black EyeCare Perspective and the National Optometric Association continue to expand representation and reshape how communities of color receive care.

Stay tuned all month long as we highlight the trailblazers in optometry!

⚡ Seeing flashing lights or zigzag lines?
You might be experiencing an ocular migraine — and no, it’s not just a headache.

👁️ Ocular migraines can cause:
✨ Temporary vision loss or blurriness
✨ Flashing lights or blind spots
✨ Distorted vision — usually in one eye

The visual symptoms often resolve within 30 minutes, but they can be startling. And while ocular migraines aren't usually dangerous, they can signal an underlying issue.

💡 If you've had sudden changes in vision, don’t ignore it. Schedule an eye exam to now to get your eyes evaluated!
