There is something deeply powerful about mixed ages in community. 🌱
In our nature enrichment groups, learning doesn’t move in neat rows or single-age lines. It unfolds in relationship—older children slowing down, younger ones looking up, everyone finding their place.
This year, that has included welcoming a baby into our group.
He belongs to one of our OT/group leaders (who also happens to be my daughter), and when she serves in the group, he is there too—supported along the way by his mom, grandmother and great grandmother along with our group leaders. Now he is simply part of the rhythm.
He explores.
The kids include him.
They notice him, adapt for him, cheer him on, and love him.
Last week, he was pulled and pushed around in our L.L. Bean wooden sled—laughing, surrounded by kids who instinctively knew how to make space for him. It was one of those quiet moments that says everything.
We believe children benefit from seeing real life modeled: caregiving, cooperation, patience, joy, and shared responsibility. We believe caregivers deserve to be supported too. And we believe community is strongest when everyone is allowed to belong—at every age.
This is what we mean when we talk about supporting all families—the families we serve and the families who serve alongside us.
We believe community is something we are called to steward with care, making room for every age and season of life. It truly takes a village, and this is the village we are intentionally crafting. 💚
