From bug eyes to the fear of eyes, Halloween is the perfect time to share some frighteningly fascinating facts vs myths about your eyes! Some will make you say โ€œEww!โ€, others โ€œWhoa!โ€, but all are eye-opening truths of eerie and educational thatโ€™ll spook your curiosity. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿฉธ

๐Ÿฆˆ Myth or Monster Tale? Nope, shark eyes were not used in human transplants! Their corneas are similar to ours, but itโ€™s still human-to-human only.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿท Fun fact: pigs, not sharks, would be top transplant candidates! If cross-species transplants ever became a thing.

โ˜ ๏ธ Pirate Patches: Arrr, matey! Those patches werenโ€™t always hiding a missing eye. Pirates actually wore them to quickly adjust from bright sunlight to dark ship decks. Scienceโ€”or sorcery? โš“๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜ฑ Ommatophobia: The Fear of Eyes Believe it or not, thereโ€™s an actual phobia of eyes! Itโ€™s rare, but it can develop after witnessing a traumatic eye injury. Creepy, right? ๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿ› Creepiest fact of all: tiny mites live in your eyelash and eyebrow follicles! Totally normal, but still nightmare fuel! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ

Whether spooky or scientific, these eye facts remind us just how amazing and eerie our vision can be.

This Halloween, keep an eye on your eye health! ๐Ÿ‘ป

Cataract surgery is one of the most successful eye surgeries today. Most people see much better afterward but not everyone ends up with perfect 20/20 vision.

Here are some common reasons why:

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ 1. Other Eye Problems

Cataract surgery only removes the cloudy lens. If other parts of your eye arenโ€™t healthy, vision may still be limited.

Examples:

-Macular degeneration (problems with the retina)
-Glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve)
-Diabetes-related eye disease
-Corneal scarring (a cloudy or irregular front surface of the eye

๐Ÿ” 2. You May Still Need Glasses

Even though a clear new lens is placed, small focusing errors can remain.

This can happen because:
-The eye heals in a slightly different shape
-You have astigmatism (the eyeโ€™s surface isnโ€™t perfectly round)
-You may still need glasses for sharp distance, reading, or computer vision or a quick laser touch-up can sometimes fix this.

๐ŸŒซ๏ธ 3. Cloudiness That Comes Back Later
-Months or years after surgery, a thin film can grow behind your new lens.

-This is often called a โ€œsecondary cataractโ€ or posterior capsule opacification (PCO).

It can make vision blurry again but itโ€™s easily treated in the clinic with a simple laser procedure (takes just a few minutes).

โš™๏ธ 4. Type of Lens Used
-Different lenses help with different kinds of vision:

-Monofocal lenses โ€“ usually give clear distance vision, but you may need near vision glasses.
-Multifocal or toric lenses โ€“ can correct more issues, but may cause halos, glare, or mild blurriness for some people. (Talk to your doctor to find out which one is right for you)

๐Ÿฉบ 5. Healing or Surgical Factors
-Sometimes, the eye needs extra time to heal or reacts differently after surgery.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผPossible issues include:
-Mild swelling in the retina or cornea
-Rare infection or inflammation
-Most of these can be treated and often improve over time.

๐Ÿง  6. The Brain Needs Time to Adjust
-If your vision was blurry for years before surgery, your brain may need some time to get used to the new, clear image. This usually improves gradually.

โœ… The Good News
-Most people see much clearer and brighter after cataract surgery even if itโ€™s not a perfect 20/20.

If your vision isnโ€™t as sharp as expected, your eye doctor can usually find the reason and offer a solution.

Donโ€™t give up on your vision or settle for thinking, โ€œItโ€™s not what it should be.โ€ Call us at 662-286-2020.

๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ฅ Did you know a blood clot (thrombosis) can affect your eyes and even cause an eye stroke?

When a blood clot blocks the veins or arteries in your eye, it can cause retinal vein or artery occlusion often referred to as an โ€œeye stroke.โ€ This can lead to sudden, painless vision loss or blurred vision, and requires immediate medical attention.

๐Ÿฉธ Risk goes up if you have:
๐Ÿ‘‰ High blood pressure
๐Ÿ‘‰ Diabetes
๐Ÿ‘‰ High cholesterol
๐Ÿ‘‰ Smoke
๐Ÿ‘‰ Or have a family history of clots

On World Thrombosis Day, we join the global effort to raise awareness about the dangers of blood clots; not just for your heart and brain, but for your eyes too.

Early detection and prevention save sight and lives. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ‘€Protect Your Vision:
โœ… Manage your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar
โœ… Quit smoking
โœ… Donโ€™t ignore sudden vision changes
โœ… Schedule regular eye exams
