While we are well versed on spinal complaints, it’s far from the only thing we treat. As a sports chiropractor, my day-to-day usually involves a lot beyond the spine. Here’s the what you need:

1. Train your full core.
Crunches won’t cut it because they only target the very front. Your core is actually a 360-degree cylinder that stabilizes your entire trunk and pelvis.

2. Learn to hinge again.
Somewhere along the way, we were told that “bending over is bad for your back.” That’s a myth that keeps people fragile. Bending over to pick something up is a natural, safe, and essential human movement.

3. Add load and resistance.
Bodyweight exercises are a great start but if your back still flares up when you pick up a grocery bag, you haven’t prepared your tissues for the real world. Resistance training increases the structural integrity of your tendons, ligaments, and muscles. This improves your capacity to handle daily life.
