When we strengthen the body through exercise, we start to feel stronger throughout the rest of the day... Similarly, when we are able to soften tension, release distractions, and focus during meditation, we become able to do this with more ease throughout our day💫

This ability does not start and end with practice; this is just where we learn to do it. What we experience in our practice we can also cultivate in our lives❣️

Through practicing on the cushion, we also learn how to notice sources of imbalance and care for each aspect of ourselves in every moment of our everyday lives.

Through of meditation practice, we calm the “fluctuations of the mind” that occur through living. All of the activity in mind space creates clutter and cloudiness that affect how we experience life.

✨Imagine your space of mind as a pool of clear, calm water—this is its natural state. When the water is transparent and tranquil, you can see the base of the pool and all that is in it clearly; as you witness life through the water, you can view your environment with clarity. Yet thoughts arise that cause subtle waves, old stories and memories create little whirlpools, and emotions cloud the water, making it difficult to witness the world around you and connect inward as it is hard to see.

The main purpose of yoga is to quiet and calm the space of mind so that it can return to its natural state. A lucid and serene state of mind creates the conditions for you to rediscover who you are and always have been beneath the layers of distraction by allowing you a closer view of each aspect of your being within each present moment🪷

As your view of meditation begins to expand, an understanding reveals itself that it is not just another thing you need to do, it is a means of cultivating a deeper relationship with yourself and an inward connection to how you think and interact with the world around you💞

It allows you to have a clearer understanding of who you are and how you are experiencing life. If, at times, you feel confused or disconnected, you can cultivate a clear path and view within. We all have the ability to do this—we just forget, are out of practice, or need to be reminded of the way.

The path within gets cluttered as we live our lives and become easily distracted, yet our meditation practice helps us continue to clear the path and strengthen our focus. It is so important that you remember and develop this ability, as you are the only one who can understand and experience yourself in this way. You are the only one who will ever be able to get this close to your Self🪷

Once you are able to release the tug of the external world, the next thing you will connect to is all of the dialogue and thoughts in your mind.

When you notice your mind full of thoughts it can feel very difficult to go any deeper into meditation. The next tool of practice helps you peel back the layer of distraction in your “thinking mind” so the dialogue in your mind space is no longer a disturbance to your focus. This is the yogic technique of dharana, holding concentration in one direction❣️

When you are able to draw your awareness away from the distraction of your thoughts and senses by resting your one-pointed focus, this creates the conditions for the next practice to occur.

This limb is known as dhyana and is defined as “focus of attention in one direction, binding consciousness to a single point.”10 This state of deep concentration creates the right conditions for you to shift into a meditative state🪷
