It’s normal for speech progress to move in waves 🌊

Your child might surprise you one day, then seem to stall the next. This doesn’t mean therapy isn’t working. It means they’re learning, practicing, and integrating new skills at their own pace.

Progress takes time, patience, and consistency. And I’ll be here to support you every step of the way ♥

🧐How long will speech therapy take?

That is the number one question I get asked from parents and caregivers and there are multiple factors to consider.

🗯️The first is the severity and type of diagnosis.

🗯️The second is the child. How well do they respond to therapy? Some children you can see progress right away and others take a little more time.

🗯️Third is age. The earlier the better! When a 4th or 5th grader comes to me with a lateral lisp, it may take a little longer to see change because the motor plan they currently have is very well established.

🗯️The last thing to consider is carryover to home. Are you doing the practice that is being sent home?

In summary, I typically tell parents, count on at least 6 months, if not 1-2 years.

If I had to name one sound I’ve worked on the most this past year, it’s hands down the "r" sound.

It’s one of the most challenging for kids to master and often takes longer to develop-but it can be improved with the right support.

From creative practice to confidence-building strategies, I’ve helped so many kids make progress with their "r"’s this past year.

If your child is struggling with this sound, you’re not alone. Reach out-I'm here to help.

❓Not sure if your child’s speech sound errors are typical?

Here are a few common signs of an articulation disorder. Some sound mistakes are part of normal development, but if they persist longer than expected or make your child hard to understand, it may be time to check in with an SLP.

I'm here to answer questions and offer support whenever you need it, just send me a DM!

📣Speech therapy doesn’t last forever. My goal is always to help your child build skills they can use confidently in everyday life. I often joke with some of my clients and say, "I love working with you, but I don't want you to be here forever!" 😜

When I start seeing consistent progress, strong carryover, and independence, I begin the conversation about dismissal.

It’s not a sudden decision. I reassess, talk with you, and create a plan to make sure your child is set up for continued success.

When the big day comes, we celebrate!🥳 It is such an accomplishment when children graduate and it should be treated as such.

My door is also always open, so if you feel like they need to come back for a "refresher" or you need some additional support after graduation, just reach out!

Speech therapy is about more than just practicing sounds 🗣️

How a child breathes, rests their tongue, and uses their oral muscles plays a HUGE role in speech clarity — which is why collaboration between a speech-language pathologist and a myofunctional therapist can be so powerful.

If your child has a persistent lisp, struggles with /s/ or "r", or feels “stuck” despite practice, there may be more happening beneath the surface.

Working together allows us to support the sound and the foundation — leading to stronger, more confident communication 💛
