First day in Costa Rica and already learning something new — just not in the operating room.

Today we visited Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center, a nonprofit sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating animals that were injured, exploited, or can no longer survive safely in the wild.

This isn’t a traditional zoo.
The goal here is rescue, rehabilitation, and when possible, release back into nature.

Seeing these animals up close — monkeys, birds, and so many other species — was an incredible reminder of the conservation work happening around the world.

Grateful to spend the first day here before diving into the training seminar with .

Sometimes the best part of a trip is learning outside the classroom. 🌿🐒

🫀 CPR is an essential skill that every person (not just medical professionals) should know! Here’s a quick refresher:

🔑 KEY STEPS:

1️⃣ Check responsiveness
Tap the person and ask if they’re okay.

2️⃣ Call for help
Have someone call emergency services and bring an AED if available.

3️⃣ Check breathing and pulse
If the person is not breathing normally and has no pulse, begin CPR immediately.

4️⃣ Start chest compressions
✔️ Hands in the center of the chest
✔️ Push hard and fast (100–120 compressions per minute)
✔️ Allow full chest recoil

5️⃣ Rescue breaths
After 30 compressions, give 2 breaths if trained.

6️⃣ Use an AED
Apply the pads and follow the device instructions as soon as it arrives.

7️⃣ Continue cycles
30 compressions : 2 breaths until help arrives.

Training matters. Preparation matters.
You never know when these skills might be needed.

Everyone should learn CPR.
