💙 We were honored to be the 2025 beneficiary of the ONE DAY Project, presented by the American Advertising Federation – Coastal Bend, and we couldn’t be more blown away! 🚀✨

Over 12 hours, a powerhouse team of TAMU-CC graphic design and marketing students and seasoned creative professionals came together to bring our mission to life. 📸💡 They developed a full multi-media advertising campaign—with donated media—to help elevate Mission of Mercy Texas and the life-saving services we provide. 🩺🦷👁️‍🗨️💛

Their vision, passion, and dedication shine through every idea, design, and message. We are truly grateful for all their hard work and commitment to making healthcare accessible for all. 🙏💙 We can’t wait to see the final product and share it with the world! 🤩🙌

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Hailey Budensiek 🌟

For a month, Hailey Budensiek joined Mission of Mercy as a student volunteer, eager to gain hands-on experience and learn from providers across multiple specialties.

“I really enjoyed getting to work with such a wide variety of providers from different backgrounds,” she said. “Hearing about their individual experiences helped broaden my perspectives and develop my clinical reasoning and patient interviewing skills.”

Budensiek added that she appreciated the opportunity to practice her medical Spanish and was grateful for the range of patient cases she encountered during her time at the clinic. “I loved working with an interdisciplinary team and felt that I gained confidence in completing patient visits on my own,” she said.

Mission of Mercy is grateful for Hailey’s enthusiasm, professionalism, and commitment to learning. Her time with us reflected the compassion and dedication that inspire our mission every day. 💙

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Arnoldo Villarreal, who recently left us after bravely facing health challenges. Dr. Villarreal will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Dr. Villarreal was the visionary behind the Mission of Mercy Vision Clinic — it was his idea, dedication, and generosity that brought the clinic to life. He not only donated his time and expertise, but also worked tirelessly to secure used vision equipment and inspire other vision care professionals to join our mission. His compassion and leadership, alongside Dr. John Bishop and Dr. Cristian Radaneata, were instrumental in shaping the success of our vision services over the years.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Villarreal had a true passion for teaching. He loved mentoring students, sharing his knowledge, and guiding the next generation of healthcare professionals with patience and purpose. His influence as a teacher and role model will continue to inspire long after his passing.

Dr. Villarreal also played a vital role in Operation Health & Wellness for more than five years, helping expand our outreach and deepen our impact throughout the community. Because of his vision and dedication — and in partnership with Dr. Bishop — Mission of Mercy was honored as the 2024 Corpus Christi Community Choice Awards Winner for Best Eye Care Clinic, and again recognized this year as a finalist.

Dr. Villarreal’s legacy of service, faith, teaching, and healing will forever live on through the lives he touched and the vision he helped build at Mission of Mercy. We ask that you please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers during this difficult time.

These bright and passionate students learned more about our services and how our team works together to bring hope and healing to the Coastal Bend community.

We’re even more excited that these students will soon join us as future volunteers, helping us continue our mission of providing compassionate care to those in need. 💙

We are incredibly grateful to Amy Snell Canterbury and Melissa De La Garza for visiting Mission of Mercy and for the American Heart Association’s generous donation of blood pressure cuffs for our patients. These essential tools will help our healthcare team monitor and manage patients’ heart health more effectively, supporting our mission to provide compassionate, quality care to everyone in the Coastal Bend community.

Our partnership with the American Heart Association goes beyond donations — together, we work to promote cardiovascular health, raise awareness about heart disease, and provide the resources our community needs to live healthier lives.
