The worst thing a mother can hear is that her child’s life is in danger. Ten years ago, my youngest daughter Elicia Elizondo was diagnosed with hypertension. Doctors performed a biopsy which determined her kidneys weren’t good. Since then, I’ve kept her closely under my wing.

Elicia’s kidney function was being maintained with medication but this only prolonged the inevitable. She needs a kidney transplant to survive. She was referred to University Transplant Institute in San Antonio and placed on the deceased donor list in June 2021. This has been a frightening journey for all of us. There are not enough donors for the nearly 90,000 people who are waiting for a transplant. Our best option is to help Elicia find a living kidney donor. Any healthy individual between the age 21-70 can donate while living because our bodies can live long normal lives with only one.

Elicia loves to read and watch sports especially the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. I have faith that someone out there will be willing to come forward to help save her life.
