💫 Congratulations to out to our Athlete Spotlight of the month VIRGINIA!!
Let’s learn more about Virginia 👏👏
What is your day job?
I’m currently working part-time at the library on base. I just finished my MBA in December and looking for a full time job.
Why did you start CrossFit training?
I started CrossFit training back in 2015 so that I could lose weight, get stronger, and live a healthier lifestyle.
How many days a week do you work out?
I work out between 5-6 days a week.
What is the most unexpected thing you have experienced here at Padre Island CrossFit?
Finally finding my community here. I’ve been a member of other CrossFit gyms, but this gym is where I truly feel connected, supported, and a sense of belonging.
What has been your best moment at Padre Island CrossFit?
My best moment was during the Murph workout one year, I actually jogged the 1 mile run. I was dead last coming in, but a couple of people stayed with me and jogged with me, and the entire gym cheered me on as I came in through the doors to finish the workout. That moment showed me this is the community where I belong.
What do you plan to accomplish in the gym the next 3 months?
My plan this year is to stay consistent with going to the gym and making sure that I prioritize my form with every movement. Due to injuries and a surgery over the past 2 years, I had to scale back on lifting heavy and modify where needed. My focus is quality over quantity.
Who is your accountability partner at the gym?
My accountability partner is everyone at the gym especially, my 5am crew. When I miss a couple of days, everyone asks where I’ve been and if I’m ok which gives me motivation and encouragement to keep showing up.
Words of advice to anyone new wanting to join Padre Island CrossFit?
Just do it! The coaches are awesome, and the community is so welcoming. They make you feel at home. Don’t think that you have to be fit to even do CrossFit. The coaches are great at scaling the workouts to all fitness levels and dedicated to helping
