June Men's Health Month: Mental Health

The expression, "It's all in your head." is a common phrase for mental health but it affects EVERYTHING: mood, physical health, behavior, sleep, appetite, relationships, social life, performance at work or school, and more.

Currently 9% of men experience depression on a daily basis; about 6 million men. More than 3 million men struggle with anxiety daily. Of the 3.5 million people diagnosed as schizophrenic by the age of 30, more than 90 percent are men. An estimated 10 million men in the U.S. will suffer from an eating disorder in their lifetime. One out of every five men will develop an alcohol dependency during his life.

Male su***de rates are rising at such an alarming pace that it’s been classified as a “silent epidemic” and is the seventh leading cause of death for males.

If you think you or a loved-one may be experiencing signs of a mental illness, visit www.mhascreening.org to take a free, quick, and confidential screen for depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, and/or Alcohol or Substance Use problems.

June Men's Health Month:
Men take charge and pay more attention to your health!

➡ Early screenings! They will not only save money in the long run but also save your life and/or make life easier to manage if diseases are caught early on.

➡ Exercise! It's summertime! Go out, move around and get at least 30 minutes of exercise in to help your heart.

➡ Anyone can help in the men's health movement. It's not limited by gender so anyone can be supportive to help men take that first step towards a better life. Everyone should be an ally!

June Men's Health Month: The Power of Prevention

Did you know your insurance plan includes over 74 preventive care services FREE from day one, when delivered by a doctor in your plan’s network, to help you stay on top of your healthcare needs?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, men in the United States, on average, die 5 years earlier than women and die at higher rates from the three leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer and unintentional injuries.

Don't be a statistic. Take advantage of the Preventative care—routine health care procedures that include screenings, check-ups, and counseling to prevent illnesses—to keep you healthy BEFORE you (husband, father, son, etc.) become sick by helping detect illness early when treatment is likely to work best. Maintaining your health is priceless.

This allows members to do a LIVE CONSULTATION with an independently contracted, board-certified doctor 24 hours a day, seven days a week by mobile app, online video or phone at home, work, or many other places and can cost less than going to the urgent care clinic or emergency room.
