My favorite local church, Church Unlimited, is doing a "Your Best Year" series to kick off 2024. This past Sunday, Pastor Bil presented "Your Best Year Emotionally" sermon. I thought it was pretty good, and mirrored some of the talks I have in therapy with my patients with regard to controlling their thoughts to feel better. I thought my friends and patients might want to watch this:

Unlock Your Best Emotional Year! Dive into this powerful sermon that guides you through a battle for your mind. Learn to recognize and conquer the lustful, f...

The Negative Effects of Ma*****na on Adolescent Brain Development - This is a new study that shows that ma*****na causes decreases in functional connectivity in the brain and that high amounts of ma*****na use predicted lower intelligence quotient (low "IQ") and slower cognitive function. Please see this article: https://academic.oup.com/cercor/article/27/3/1922/3056289?fbclid=IwAR2QAP1Go9t6C49gcGvnbohECIjquJViCPpvH7btgBESK9sfhKFpFocmAAA

I know this is contrary to the news media and various political organizations that now try to convince the American public that ma*****na is a "safe" product because it is, "all natural." Nothing can be further from the truth!! I talk to my patients about this all the time. Moreover, there is a significant increase in the onset of mental disorders (i.e., depression, anxiety, etc.) for long-term ma*****na users; this is called "comorbidity" in the mental health field.

I've sat in a day-long continuing education training that covered all the negative effects of ma*****na; this was really eye-opening for me to say the least. Yes, there are some therapeutic uses for ma*****na, but most users do not use ma*****na for this purpose.

For those interested on learning more about the effects of ma*****na (negatives and positives), please see this comprehensive reference article....Be prepared to read as it is almost 500 pages: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK423845/

Welcome To My Private Practice

I am a clinical psychologist in Corpus Christi, Tx. I hold a PhD in Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. I am also BCIA board certified in neurofeedback.

My practice focuses on anxiety-related conditions, such as generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and PTSD. I am especially skilled at helping those who suffer from panic attacks, even longstanding panic conditions that have not improved with medication. I utilize a patient-centered treatment approach that draws from numerous evidence based treatments; these treatments are customized to meet the patient’s unique treatment goals. Examples of commonly used treatments include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Supportive Counseling, Behavioral Sleep Management, and Biofeedback.

Please call me to discuss your unique circumstances. I provide a free, brief phone discussion to answer any preliminary pre-treatment questions you might have. Many people are very nervous to see a psychologist, and these feelings are perfectly normal; a quick call to me can often help to alleviate these initial fears, dispel common stereotypes about mental health treatment, and to help encourage you to seek treatment. I look forward to meeting and working with you!

Wishing you good mental health and happiness, Dr. Fisher
