The Family Compass:Senior-Life Education Guiding South Texas families with
clarity, compassion, and education.
❤️ Where clarity meets compassion.
🩺 Not a provider.

Consult a licensed clinician for care. ❤️ This page was created to support families across South Texas—especially in Corpus Christi, Portland, Taft, and the greater Coastal Bend—as they navigate serious illness and end-of-life care decisions. Whether you're just beginning to ask questions or feeling overwhelmed in the middle of it all, my goal is to offer real talk, helpful resources, and gentle guidance on what hospice truly means—and what it doesn’t.

🌿 I’m Ray Reyes, Area Manager with Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, and I believe deeply in the peace, clarity, and support hospice care can bring. While I proudly serve with Enhabit, this page is an independent educational resource not affiliated with or representing any one provider.

🧭 Think of this space as your family’s compass when the road ahead feels uncertain.

If you’re caring for a parent and things feel “a little off,” trust your gut. In the Coastal Bend/South Texas Region, a lot of families wait until a crisis—when small steps taken earlier could’ve brought more peace.

Quick check you can do this week:

Ask: “What feels harder lately—walking, bathing, eating, or breathing?”

Track 3 days: sleep, appetite, pain, confusion (simple notes)

Review meds together (look for missed doses or side effects)

Confirm the next appointment and write 3 questions down

Pick one helper: family, friend, church neighbor, or local support

If you want, comment “CHECKLIST” and I’ll drop a simple one-page version for families in Coastal Bend/South Texas Region. What change have you noticed most in your loved one lately?

As the holidays get closer, imagine your loved one in a wheelchair being able to rise up, look people in the eye, and feel fully part of the celebration again.

The MATIA mobility chair adapter is one of the new tools helping some people stand, move, and stay more engaged with family and friends. If you’re in the Coastal Bend and caring for someone who uses a wheelchair, let’s talk about whether this kind of device might be a fit for your situation.

Visit matiamobility.com to see the technology, then message The Family Compass page or call Ray at 209-616-4472 to schedule a private, no-pressure conversation.

Good afternoon, Coastal Bend caregivers and families. For some wheelchair users, the ability to safely stand again can support bone strength, circulation, digestion, pressure relief, and even mood—while still having the stability of a mobility device. Matia Mobility’s standing device (https://www.matiamobility.com/) is one option families can explore with their doctor or physical therapist to see if it’s a good fit. If you or a loved one uses a wheelchair, would standing eye-to-eye again make daily life feel different for you? For more information and local resources, call Ray at 209-616-4472

Good morning, Coastal Bend seniors and families.

If you’ve been up since 4 a.m., you already know—it’s a little damp and chilly out there today. If you head out and about, please bundle up, watch your step on wet ramps and sidewalks, and give yourself a little extra time on the road.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around town, and we want you to enjoy it safely.
