He and his family eventually moved to Texas. In 1969, he was in a farm accident, that severed his left foot and did some damage to his back. Bill Roughton drove him in the ambulance to the hospital in Corsicana, and Dr. Scott Middleton was there, and was able to perform an "experimental" surgery on him (That saved Clif's foot). He counted it a blessing to be able to volunteer for The Texas Baptist Men, working asset protection for them on numerous occasions following hurricanes and tornados various places in Texas. He was a high school teacher in Blooming Grove for 32 years, teaching Government, History, and Economics. He organized Project Graduation there for many years; to provide a safe "after-graduation" celebration He truly loved teaching and loved his students. He especially enjoyed when his former students were able to get back in touch with him and catch him up on how they were doing. He loved guns, mustangs, and traveling. He and his wife (along with their daughter Allison in many cases) took numerous trips to Europe and were privileged to travel to all 50 states. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Blooming Grove and helped with the safety team there.

For the last two years, he had been a resident at Village of Heritage Oaks. The family wishes to thank the staff there, for the kindness and wonderful care they provided.

Laverne Hester Scoggins, 79, of Corsicana, Texas, entered her Heavenly home on October 17, 2025, at 9:52 p.m., where she was joyfully welcomed by her loving Father. Born on March 7, 1946, in Corsicana, Texas, to Evan (“Pete”) and Vera Hester, Laverne attended her early school years in Barry, Texas, before moving to Corsicana, where she later graduated from high school. In 1966, Laverne married the love of her life, Roy Scoggins, and together they built a beautiful life raising their three sons—Roy Glen, James, and Roger. Laverne took great pride in being a stay-at-home mom, devoting her life to raising her children. She often said that her job was her children, and when asked if raising them was hard, she would simply smile and say, “It was easy.” Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own children, as she also lovingly raised her granddaughters Courtney Scoggins and Candace Graham, who brought her immense joy and purpose. She deeply loved her family and took heartfelt pride in each one of them. A devoted Christian, Laverne was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she never failed to recognize God’s blessings, even in the toughest of times. She lived each day with gratitude, passing down a legacy of love, integrity, and Christian values that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. All of her favorite expressions of love will forever be felt and heard. “I love you beyond all measure.” “I love you more than you’ll ever know.” “I love you more than that.” Laverne is survived by her three sons: Roy Glen Scoggins of Corsicana, TX; James Scoggins of North Little Rock, AR; and Roger Scoggins of Corsicana, TX; and her daughters-in-love Michelle Ann Scoggins and Cynthia Scoggins. Her cherished grandchildren include Jeff and Kori Scoggins of Denison; Cody and Michelle Scoggins of Denison; Wesley Scoggins of Sherwood, AR; Courtney Scoggins of Corsicana; Ashton and Hunter Leppert of Dubberly, LA; Candace and Justin Graham of Corsicana; and Jessica Scoggins of Corsicana. Doris Ruth (Black) Casey, 90, of Fairfield, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lanely, Texas, in 1935, Doris was the youngest of four children born to Hiram and Eunice Black. A proud lifelong resident of Fairfield, her roots and relationships ran deep within the community she loved. She was married to Roy Casey, Jr. for 70 years, and together they built a strong, steady life grounded in hard work, family, and faith. Through every season, they stood side by side — partners in both life and business — shaping a legacy that reflected commitment, resilience, and love in action. Doris was the mother of Kathy, and Roy III (“Little Roy”), who preceded her in death and surely welcomed her into the arms of Jesus with a joyful shout of “Glory!” Doris spent many years serving her community through the Fairfield schools, first as a P.E. teacher and later as a school secretary to several principals, where her caring heart and practical approach touched countless students and staff. She was also a proud member of the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary (WMA), a longtime member of the History Club, and a faithful servant in her church. Alongside her family, Doris worked tirelessly for Casey Propane and R&D Land and Cattle Company — keeping both businesses going through her strong work ethic and unshakable determination. Her steady hand and commitment kept things moving forward even in the toughest times. She loved to travel and spent years exploring the world, collecting memories and stories that she shared with humor and sparkle. Known for her impeccably clean and organized home, Doris believed that everything had its place and that every day was better when you looked your best. She loved having her hair and nails done and always presented herself with grace and pride. As her family lovingly says, “She was Martha more than a Mary” — a woman of action, always busy, always giving, and always making sure everything was just right. Beneath her polished exterior was a feisty, determined spirit and a deep loyalty to those she loved. Doris was quick to stand up for her family and never backed down from doing what she believed was right. Her legacy is one of strength, devotion, and unwavering love — a true matriarch whose example will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind her husband of 70 years, Roy Jr.; her daughter Kathy and husband Richard Best; their children Casey Best and wife Lindsay, and their children Liv and Brooks; and Brittany Bird and her son Braden. She is also survived by her beloved son Roy III’s daughters — Megan Jones and husband James, and their children Kennedy, Owen, and Masey; and Amy Nold and husband Brian, and their son Caleb. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 9:00am to 10:00am at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield. Funeral services follow immediately at 10:00am with Pastor Ed Ridge officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Chapel Cemetery.

Sean John Garnet Mabe, age 59, of Purdon, Texas, passed away on October 2, 2025. He was born May 1, 1966, in Findlay, Ohio, to Samuel Mabe and Gloria Bertoline. Sean was the kind of man whose presence filled a room—not because he asked for attention, but because he brought a peace and light that people naturally felt. He was kind, funny, and steady, with a way of making everyone feel welcome. He had a deep joy about life—never taking it too seriously, always finding laughter even when things were hard. Sean was proud of his Squamish heritage and deeply honored his role as an Elder within the tribe. He carried that wisdom and respect throughout his life—teaching through quiet strength, humor, and humility. He understood what it meant to walk with dignity and to honor both people and the earth. A man of strong hands and a stronger faith, Sean worked hard all his life and gave his best in everything he did. But his greatest work was loving others. He always put people first, making sure those around him were cared for, comfortable, and happy. He had a gift for knowing when someone needed a lift, and he gave freely of his time and spirit. Through his love, his faith, and his words, Sean touched lives—and he led many souls to the Lord. Sean was an old soul with a rock-and-roll heart. Music was his rhythm and his refuge. He loved those long, easy moments of conversation and laughter—where stories, songs, and a little quiet reflection made the world slow down. Those who knew him best will smile at that memory, knowing exactly the kind of peace he loved to share. Sean loved God deeply. His faith was personal, unshakable, and filled with grace. He often reminded those around him to hold on to their faith, to love without judgment, and to never be afraid to lean on the Lord. His greatest wish was for his family and friends to find peace in that same love and to accept Jesus as their Savior. He believed that love was the truest legacy a person could leave behind—and his own life proved it. His family was his pride, his joy, and his purpose. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, with burial following at Mitchell-Mabe Private Family Cemetery. Sean is survived by his children: John Mabe and fiancée Amanda, and Kristen Mabe and husband Brent Mitchell, and their mother and his lifelong best friend Cindy Mabe; his bonus children Chelsi Coker and husband Bobby, and Christopher Brightman and wife Rachel; siblings Tony Mabe, Troy Mabe, Todd Hammer, Shelly Hammer, Samantha Johnson, and Sammy Mabe; his bonus mom Sandy Mabe-Garnier. He is also survived by his grandchildren Katelyn, Jason, Willow, Sean, Kurtice, Mayc, Lexi, Chloe, Walker, Kai, Matthias, Stella, Devlin, and Dillon, and his great-granddaughter Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Greg Hammer. Sean also leaves behind a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless other family members and friends who loved him dearly and will carry his memory forward. Sean’s legacy of love, laughter, faith, and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his light, his strength, and the countless lives he helped guide closer to God. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27
