Today, we’re celebrating one of the remarkable women who helped shape Old Mill Center from the very beginning—our co-founder, Bev Larson. On her birthday, we want to pause and share our deep appreciation for Bev’s vision, leadership, and the care she has poured into this community for decades.

In 1977, Bev and Barb Kralj took a bold step forward by founding the Old Mill School and launching an integrated Preschool program. Their belief that children with special needs and typically developing children belong in learning spaces together was visionary—and at the time, truly groundbreaking. What they created laid a foundation rooted in inclusion, empathy, and possibility, setting a standard that continues to influence early childhood education today.

From serving just 8 families in the early days to now supporting more than 2,000 children and families each year through six programs, Old Mill Center’s growth reflects Bev’s steadfast commitment to meeting families where they are and responding to the needs of our community.

🌟 Help us celebrate Bev! 🌟
We’d love to hear your memories, messages, and well-wishes. If Bev’s work has touched your life, inspired you, or holds a special place in your Old Mill story, please share below.

Happy Birthday, Bev! 🎂🎈 Your legacy continues to make a meaningful difference for children and families every single day. 💖

🎨 Art That Gives Back 💛

A Fundraiser Supporting Old Mill Center

⏰ Last chance to visit! Tomorrow, February 7, is the final day to experience Art That Gives Back, a special fundraising exhibition featuring abstract works by local artist Tom Mayers, on view at the Corrine Woodman II Gallery at The Arts Center of Greater Corvallis.

Tom Mayers’ layered, textural abstract paintings explore color, movement, and emotion—inviting viewers to bring their own memories and interpretations into the experience. His work captures energy, rhythm, and the unseen forces that shape how we experience the world.

✨ Why it matters:
All proceeds from artwork sales directly support Old Mill Center, helping us continue providing personalized services to children and families in our community.

We’re deeply grateful to Tom Mayers and The Arts Center - Corvallis, OR for partnering with us to connect creativity with compassionate community care. If you haven’t visited yet, there’s still time—stop by the gallery, experience the art, and help make a difference, one family at a time.

✨ Movement with Meaning ✨

In the hallway of our Child, Teen & Family Counseling program, you’ll now find this colorful movement path designed with intention and care.

These designs are being used as a regulation tool, giving kiddos a chance to get some energy out and engage their bodies before and after sessions. Along the way, there are built-in pauses with reminders to “breathe,” helping support calm, grounding, and smoother transitions to the next activity or space.

It’s a simple path—but one that supports big feelings, growing bodies, and the important work our counselors and families do every day. 💛

🎨 Art is happening all around Old Mill Center! ❄️🌈

Our preschoolers have been busy creating beautiful rainbows and snowflakes, filling our halls with color, creativity, and a whole lot of joy. Each piece reflects their imagination, curiosity, and the magic that happens when kids are given space to explore and express themselves.

And because creativity is contagious… our staff got in on the fun too! During a recent team-building activity, staff picked up their paintbrushes and created watercolor art of their own—joining the kids in celebrating play, process, and connection through art.

From tiny hands to grown-up ones, we love seeing how creativity brings our community together. 💛
