Statement of Principles

As members of the Corvallis Professional Firefighters Association, our fundamental duty is to serve the public, safeguard and preserve life and property against the elements of fire and disaster. Believing in such unity is essential for the general well-being and advancement of our interests as fire fighters. For that, we have formed the Corvallis Professional Firefighters, and have affiliated with the International Association of Firefighters. The objectives of this local shall be:

To organize all Corvallis firefighters
To insure the health and safety of its members
To secure just compensation for its members
To insure equitable settlement of their grievances
To promote and secure a cooperative labor-management relationship
To establish just and reasonable working conditions
To achieve a high level of skill and efficiency
To join together and promote friendship and fellowship among all

We strive for the highest standard within our profession, continually searching for the new and improved ways of sharing responsibilities, ideas, skills, and knowledge with our members and fellow co-workers.

Happy Holidays from your Corvallis Professional Firefighters!

Last week several Corvallis Professional Firefighters presented charitable donations on behalf of the Corvallis Professional Firefighters Charitable Foundation. These donations were made to 3 local charities during the holiday season.

The Linn Benton Food Share, CSD Family Support Program and Jackson Street Youth Services all provide valuable services to community members in need. We are proud to support these local services.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Forest Grove Fire family

It is with the heaviest of hearts, and deepest sympathies, that Forest Grove Fire & Rescue announces the death of a beloved member, Captain Rick Ilg, who passed away at his home on September 12, 2021. Just before Christmas 2018, Rick received a brain cancer diagnosis that he fought bravely against for nearly three years. Throughout it all, Rick’s resilience and determination was nothing short of incredible, as evidenced by when he returned to work full duty for a period of time. Unfortunately, Rick’s cancer progressed, and forced him to retire from our organization this past summer.

Rick came to our fire department in 2006, he was a long time employee of Metro West Ambulance before that, and Rick’s life work in emergency medicine made him one of our region’s most respected and regarded Paramedics. During his decades of service, Rick left an immeasurable mark on the countless paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters who worked with him, and were mentored by his always impressive ability to handle the most stressful incidents with an unthinkable ease. It’s impossible to even begin to consider the true number of lives Rick impacted, both in the patients he cared for, and in those who worked alongside him. His leadership, intelligence, and hard work earned him promotions to Lieutenant, and eventually to Captain of our C Shift.

Captain Rick Ilg was a friend to all, a mentor for many, as well as a loving husband and father to a wife and daughter that he leaves behind. There is no way to explain in any words the mark that this man left on all of us, and we already miss him dearly.

Cancer is a grim and serious issue for the fire service. The smoke, and burned debris of our modern structure fires contain considerable amount of carcinogens and toxins that have been scientifically proven to contribute to causing cancer. That being said, cancer is considered a line of duty death for firefighters. Though other firefighters have succumbed to cancer in our agency’s history, Rick’s loss is the first line of duty death in Forest Grove since the adoption of presumptive cancer legislation was passed in Oregon over two decades ago

Happy Labor Day from your Corvallis Professional Firefighters! The labor movement is responsible for better wages, safety, and working conditions for both union and non union workers in this country. Your Corvallis Professional Firefighters and the Oregon State Fire Fighters Council proudly fight for fair wages, benefits, retirement security, safety and working conditions of our members.

This Labor Day we remember the history of this weekend. It’s remembrance is built on the backs of workers who worked 7 days a week 12 to 14 hour days for next to nothing in pay. To the pioneers of the Labor Unions and those with the courage to pave the way, we thank you. We only have the right to bargain because of the strides they made. “Power concedes nothing without a demand, it never has and it never will”
