New Directions For Women

New Directions For Women Women, women with children and pregnant women are welcome at our nationally recognized, certified, oldest gender-specific addiction treatment center in OC.

New Directions for Women is a gender-specific facility exclusively for women suffering from drug and alcohol abuse, chemical dependency, and other addictive disorders. We offer addiction detox and rehab services for women, pregnant women, and women with children. We believe that all women deserve care despite their ability to pay for treatment. Every woman and child who comes through our doors receives some amount of scholarship funds. Our aim is to raise half a million dollars a year, which goes directly to the Pamela Wilder Scholarship Fund to ensure more women and their children are able to receive the quality treatment they need. By providing exceptional, gender-separate and specific addiction treatment services that are grounded in 12-Step principles, New Directions for Women assists women, families and their children to achieve sustained responsible recovery from addiction.

✨ Our Story: Nearly 50 Years of Transforming Women’s Lives

In 1977, Pamela Wilder was brave enough to stand up during a meeting of the Junior League of Orange County and declare the need for a space for chemically dependent women to be treated for their disease. There was a shortage of affordable rehabilitation treatment services. NDFW is the vision Pamela, and our other two founders Marion Schoen and Muriel Zink, spoke of. Our adherence to this original vision can be seen in our willingness to work with all women.

• 1977-NDFW is founded as a response to the severe shortage of affordable rehabilitation beds for women
• 1982- Officially becomes a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a volunteer board of directors
• Progressed from a peer-oriented recovery home to providing a full continuum of chemical dependency treatment services
• 2001- Established The Pamela Wilder Family Home for treatment of women with children. Women may obtain treatment without giving up custody of their children!
• 2005- New Directions initiates Early Childhood Development Services on campus. A full time Child Development Coordinator is hired to work with children living in residence, while their mothers focus on their treatment during the day.
• 2007- NDFW becomes CARF Accredited for the first time.
• 2009- Our IOP begins. At the same time, Courage House is licensed as an Intensive Sober Living home where women attend IOP treatment services while working, going to school, or volunteering in the community during the day.
• 2011- Seeking Safety is integrated into the curriculum, adding a vital component to our recovery program by actively addressing trauma.
• 2014- Detox services have been added into the continuum of care
• 2015- Founders House is renovated into an 18-bed healing sanctuary.
• 2017- NDFW celebrates 40 years of service and hosts its first Jeffersonian Dinner

From then to now, our campus has witnessed thousands of moments filled with healing and hope. We extend heartfelt thanks to our board, donors, and community for nearly 50 years of unwavering support.

Our team had such a great time at 9th annual Jingle & Mingle. Thank you for creating this event and supporting the kids at New Directions for Women and Miriam’s House. 🎁❤️

We’re sending a huge thank-you to and their team for another amazing Jingle & Mingle. Hard to believe this is the 9th year.

They create such a cheerful and meaningful event for the kids at New Directions for Women and .house . Our little ones are always showered with toys and get to enjoy the magic of sitting with Santa and opening gifts while they’re in our care. These donations also help us celebrate birthdays and holidays throughout the year, which means more joy and more special moments for every child who comes through our doors.

Thank you to and everyone who donated and continues to show up for our families and our community. Your support truly makes a difference. 🎁✨

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us. 🧡 Today can bring joy, connection, and gratitude, but it can also bring triggers, mixed emotions, and challenges—especially for those in recovery or supporting someone who is. Wherever you are in your journey, we want you to remember that you are not alone, your progress matters, and your well-being is worth protecting. Whether you’re spending the day with family, connecting with community, or simply focusing on staying grounded and sober, we see you, we support you, and we’re proud of the work you’re doing. Wishing you peace, strength, and moments of genuine gratitude today and every day.

The holidays can be beautiful, but they can also be triggering, overwhelming, and full of old patterns. If you’re choosing sobriety this season, you’re not just avoiding a drink… you’re choosing clarity, peace, and the version of yourself you’re working so hard to grow into. 🤍

You don’t have to justify your sobriety.
You don’t have to match the energy in the room.
You don’t have to say yes to anything that costs your peace or progress.

Staying sober through the holidays is an act of self-respect, and it matters.

It’s one day at a time, one choice at a time, one win at a time.

If this is your first holiday sober or your tenth, I’m proud of you. You’re changing your story, and that is powerful.
