Anything your child produces ✨consistently✨ and ✨meaningfully✨ on their own. Ask yourself, does my child make the SAME sign or sound to represent the SAME one thing? If so, that’s a word!
Examples:
⭐️Sign Language: Signing “all done” when they’re finished
⭐️Animal sounds: moo, baa, woof
⭐️Word approximations: Speech requires complex motor movement so children initially simplify words. Saying “bah” for “ball” or “wawa” for “water” counts as a word!

Our son‘s first word was not mom or dad, but the name of his luvie 🤷🏻♀️. We’d love to know - what was your child’s first word?
