Cholesterol is so tricky for so many patients. Some patients respond well to high fat diets (the A-Z study showed a bigger reduction in cholesterol with the Atkins diet than with the Dean Ornish diet!). For other patients, reducing saturated fat is important. Are you making your cholesterol or absorbing it? These are different treatment processes. What's the activity level? What's the inflammation level? There's a lot here to unpack, a statin is a one size fits all and may improve your numbers but it's hard to say that it necessarily means you are healthier after taking them.
