Start Healing Now

Start Healing Now SHN, a nonprofit
organization based in Wisconsin SHN was founded in 2013 by Wisconsin mother Linda Lenz after losing her son Tony to an accidental overdose.

Since 2015, Jessica Geschke has served as President of SHN. Jessica began working within SHN and other Wisconsin-based advocacy groups after nearly losing her brother to an overdose. Jessica, along with her board of directors have spent years volunteering including endless hours of planning and executing events to raise money to help educate the public and get those addicted into treatment. Their tireless efforts have saved so many lives and have saved so many families the pain of losing their loved one. Most recently the Board of Directors have embarked on a new direction with SHN. This has included the renaming of the 501C3 non-profit and branding of the page and new website and a name change to Start Healing Now. This nonprofit organization provides a solid base of continuous care, including resources and financial assistance for safe and structured sober living homes, education, transitional aftercare programs and free access to the lifesaving drug, Narcan. Your donations to SHN fuel the OAK Program, the road to recovery and a new life for those who struggle with the disease of addiction. Your donation will literally save a life! Narcan, provided free of charge and distributed across the country, saves lives daily by reversing the effects of an overdose. There is no chance of recovery if addiction ends up in a fatal overdose but with Start Healing Now thousands will be saved in order to give them a second chance at life. Please Donate Now. Let’s Talk About Narcan. 🤍

At Start Healing Now, we know not everyone agrees with harm reduction. We know this topic can feel uncomfortable.

Our goal isn’t to argue.
Our goal is to break stigma — because stigma keeps people silent.
And silence costs lives.

⚠️ Narcan is not permission.
⚠️ It is not approval.
⚠️ It is not encouragement.

♥️ It is a medication that restores breathing when someone would otherwise die.

Overdoses don’t just happen to “other people.” They happen in our neighborhoods and families.

Real scenarios:
• A grandmother who miscounted pain medication
• A toddler who found pills in a purse
• A cancer patient whose prescribed dose became too much
• A high school senior who made one impulsive choice
• A person in recovery whose tolerance had dropped

Pause for a second.

If that were your child… your parent… your spouse…
Would you want Narcan there?

We don’t control pharmaceutical pricing. We can’t fix every barrier in healthcare.

But Narcan is available to us through public health partnerships to prevent overdose deaths — and because we have access to it, we use it to save lives.

This isn’t political.
It’s about breathing.

You may never need it.
But what if someone you love does?

If we can prevent a death in Wisconsin, we will. 💜

❤️‍🩹 This Valentine’s Day, Love Looks Like Showing Up. ❤️‍🩹

At Start Healing Now, we believe love is more than flowers and candy.

Love is carrying naloxone.
Love is checking in on a friend.
Love is having the hard conversations.
Love is refusing to let stigma win.

Every Overdose Aid Kit (O.A.K.) placed in a school, business, church, or community space is an act of love.

Every life saved is someone’s child. Someone’s parent. Someone’s Valentine.

In Wisconsin and beyond, we are choosing compassion over judgment. Education over silence. Preparedness over panic.

💜 Because love means we don’t give up on people.
💜 Love means we fight for recovery.
💜 Love means we keep showing up.

Tony,

The reason Start Healing Now exists. 💜

Forever 23.

Thirteen years have passed today, yet not a single day goes by that you are not felt in all that we do. You are woven into this mission, into every life touched, into every step forward taken in your honor.

Even on the hardest days, your light guides us. Your memory fuels our purpose. What was born from heartbreak continues to bring hope because of you.

We carry you with us—always.
You are missed more than words can ever say.

Sending all our love to your mama today and always.
With Love,
The SHN Team
