Start planning for yourself first…..
Most families don’t struggle with decisions…
They struggle with starting the conversation, a great way to start is to begin gathering information and planning for yourself, then you can share with your loved one what you have put together.
After sitting with families, I’ve noticed something consistent:
It’s not “What should we choose?”
It’s
“What do we need to have ready?”
Things like:
• Who has legal authority at the time of passing
• Vital statistics (that no one can find when needed)
• Military discharge papers
• Marriage/divorce history
• Parent information (yes… even maiden names)
And one of the biggest misconceptions I see:
👉 Power of Attorney does NOT apply after death
Which often leaves families scrambling, confused, and sometimes in conflict.
This is why I always say-
before we talk about cremation, burial, or even costs…
Let’s get the paperwork and information organized first.
Because when that part is clear, everything else becomes easier.
If you’ve ever thought:
“I wouldn’t even know where to start…”
You’re not alone.
Start simple. Start with information. Start with clarity.
💬 I’m always happy to answer questions or share a simple checklist-no pressure, just guidance.
And yes, everyone should have information and a plan in place for loved ones even if you’re not a senior. 😊
If you would like me to DM you my simple check list please comment “Checklist” in comments and please feel free to share this post.
