Celebrating a true American hero.
Sweden Valley resident Bernie Adams turned 102 years old on November 22nd. He is the last living WWII veteran in Potter County, and we were deeply honored to celebrate this remarkable milestone with him.
A beautiful celebration was organized by Ann Jackson, SV Activities Director, along with Pastor Carl Scorsone of the Tabernacle Church and Pat Bowman. Bernie was surrounded by his loving family—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—along with church members, fellow veterans, and many friends.
We were honored to welcome Mike Pepper, Director of Veterans Affairs of Potter County, and Shelly Butler from PA State Representative Marty Causer’s office, who presented Bernie with special certificates.
A very special moment came when Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson recognized Bernie on the U.S. House floor, acknowledging his service and wishing him a happy birthday. The American flag that flew over the White House that day is being mailed to Bernie in his honor. Congressman Thompson also called during the celebration to personally thank Bernie for his service—and even sang him a birthday song.
Bernie also received special letters and gifts from Senator Cris Dush and Senator John Fetterman.
This was truly a memorable and heartfelt day for one of our most treasured residents.
Happy 102nd Birthday, Bernie—and thank you for your extraordinary service to our country. ❤️
