🌟 Employee Spotlight: Mo! 🌟

Meet Mo, a valued member of our Environmental Services team! In just 3 months at Midlands, he’s already making a difference with his heartwarming conversations and ability to connect with every resident. He loves getting to know the unique personalities here, making each day fun and meaningful.

Outside of work, Mo enjoys cars and cooking, and he recently celebrated a milestone by getting his first offset smoker. He lives in the country and loves the peaceful surroundings, and family is incredibly important to him. He has three children who bring him endless joy.

Something many people don’t know about Mo? He is legally blind, showing remarkable resilience and determination every day. He dreams of being a healer of the mind, and if he could have a superhuman power, he’d want to help people see why we need peace.

We’re so grateful for Mo’s energy, dedication, and kindness, he truly brightens every day for residents and staff alike! 💛

👑 It’s time to crown our Valentine’s Day royalty! 👑

The ballots are officially open, and we’re inviting residents and staff to cast their votes for our Valentine’s Day King and Queen.

Our newly crowned royalty will reign at the Valentine’s Day Party, seated at the head table and crowned in style. The celebration doesn’t stop there! We’ll be honoring our King and Queen with fun surprises throughout the month! 💖

To become a VIP groupie, you needed luck and a dash of competitiveness. All week, residents battled it out in Elvis-themed contests for a shot at the front row, where they proudly showed off their raciest granny panties and bras hidden beneath their lap blankets. Judging from Elvis' reaction, he wasn't expecting a bra to fly his way or to dodge panties mid-performance, but that's what made it a Midlands must-do. Life's an adventure, and moments like these remind us why we love our jobs!

Simple steps, like wearing a mask, can make a meaningful difference in keeping our residents, staff, and visitors healthy. Masks will be available at both the front and back entrances for anyone who would like one.

A big thank you to Ascera Care Hospice as they are hosting a hot chocolate bar for our residents today! This is just one of the many ways they’ve been working to support our community and get more involved with life here at Midlands.

These meaningful connections mean so much to us and even more to our residents. Simple moments like sharing a warm cup of cocoa and conversation bring joy, comfort, and a sense of togetherness that truly enrich our community.

🎉 101 Years of Kitty! 🎉

Yesterday, we celebrated an extraordinary milestone, Kitty’s 101st birthday!

To mark the occasion, residents were invited to stop by Kitty’s room to wish her a happy birthday (and yes… enjoy one of 101 cupcakes made just for her!). Her door was decorated with big balloons and glitter — because Kitty loves the fancy things in life.

Kitty’s story is nothing short of remarkable. An only child who grew up on a farm, she remembers a time before plumbing and electricity, outdoor movies under the stars, and delivering newspapers as a young girl.

She married her high school sweetheart when he returned home from the war, later remarried, raised three children, and built a life rooted in hard work and independence. Over the years, Kitty worked at ALHS scheduling sporting events and in the business office, served the State of Iowa through Social Services and DHS, sold Avon, and even owned a turkey and chicken ranch, selling poultry both wholesale and retail.

Now a beloved part of the Midlands community, Kitty continues to shine with her signature style, warm smile, and gracious spirit. She’ll even be making a brief appearance on Good Morning America, reminding us all that life doesn’t stop being exciting at any age.

Happy 101st Birthday, Kitty 🎂 You are living proof that elegance, resilience, and joy only grow richer with time. We are so honored to celebrate!

We’re ringing in the New Year a little early and a whole lot of fun at Midlands with our Countdown to Noon celebration!

Residents will enjoy a festive balloon drop, a cheerful toast, and some silly Minute-to-Win-It games. They’ll also have the chance to share their New Year’s resolutions and celebrate with silly string and party poppers for extra excitement.

It’s a joyful, laughter-filled way to welcome the New Year together, creating fun memories and plenty of smiles!

Millie has been a bright and joyful presence at Midlands for years! Married to Jerry for 65 wonderful years, she enjoys staying active and engaged with bingo, trivia, crafting, cooking, and pet visits — activities that make her feel vibrant and connected. A lifelong reader and former church secretary, Millie thrives on routine and cherishes the consistent care from our staff, especially her CNA, Molly, who she says “just has a big heart” and always goes the extra mile to make her feel at home.

Millie loves country-western music, being outdoors, and watching her favorite shows like Shark Tank, Wheel of Fortune, and football. She says group activities help her feel alive and part of a community, and her enthusiasm inspires everyone around her.

With her warmth, energy, and sense of connection, Millie truly embodies the spirit of home at Midlands. 💛
