This Black History Month, we honor Dr. Inez Beverly Prosser, whose work helped shape modern child psychology and mental health care.
As the first Black woman in the United States to earn a PhD in psychology, Dr. Prosser focused her research on how school environments affect children’s confidence, belonging, and emotional well-being.
Her work highlighted the importance of supportive environments and equitable opportunities in shaping mental health outcomes. Her legacy continues to influence child mental health care today.
