Social Model Recovery Systems was proud to support Impact Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center’s Second Annual Dash Thru The 80s 5K at Hahamonga Watershed Park in Pasadena.

The event brought together residents, alumni, families, staff, and community members in a vibrant celebration of recovery, wellness, and connection. Our SMRS team hosted a resource booth, cheered on participants, and even joined the race — showing that recovery includes movement, community, and joy.

Funds raised from the event support Impact’s enrichment programs that promote long-term recovery, education, and personal growth.

Events like this remind us that healing happens not only through treatment, but also through connection, healthy living, and community support.

United Coalition East Prevention Project (UCEPP), a program of Social Model Recovery Systems, hosted The Power of Prevention: Lessons from the Skid Row Oral History Project at Inner-City Arts, with support from the Community Centered Emergency Room Project (CCERP).

The event created space for meaningful conversations about lived experience, community resilience, and the importance of prevention efforts that are rooted in real relationships. Through research, documentary footage, and a panel of former youth participants, the gathering highlighted how connection, trust, and early support can change lives.

At SMRS, we are proud to stand alongside community partners working to strengthen neighborhoods across Los Angeles.

In recognition of American Heart Month, national data from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services show Black and Latino adults are more likely to have diabetes- a major risk factor for heart disease. At the same time, methamphetamine and co***ne use continue to drive rising overdoses and ER visits in these communities. Because stimulants raise heart rate and blood pressure, they place dangerous stress on the heart, especially for people living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Prevention, treatment, and regular health screenings help protect heart health and overall well-being.
