Client’s often ask me how they can support/maintain their healing outside of the therapy space. The reality is that it’s going to look different for everyone because our “work” or challenges & inner/outer resources vary. However, what I can say is that whatever you do, do it with love & intention. Even if it’s ONE thing.
An important component for sustained healing is building capacity to hold all we are calling in. Fortifying the body is essential for the spirit. And fortifying the spirit supports the body. When the body is strong we can push through-when we have to. When our spirit is strong, that alone can carry us the rest of the way. When both work in conjunction-we are balanced.
As someone who leans towards the sensitive side (i.e., predominantly environmental & emotional stimuli), it’s important to incorporate practices that soothe my sensitivities. For me, in addition to my own therapy, that looks like being outside in nature or enjoying a moment of silence. Cooking a nourishing meal or preparing a warm drink to soothe my spirit. Tending to my body through movement or hygiene rituals allows me to release. Reading or learning something new allows my mind & soul to expand-to be free. Creating engages my bodymind & is essential for me in ways I can’t describe. Connecting with other beings, inclusive of my dog, is vital as well. These are all practices I incorporate to create capacity within myself to hold what I’m going through, for what may come & ultimately what I want to call in.
How do you support yourself in building capacity in your bodymind & spirit?
