💙✉️ Introducing the Northern Kentucky Blue Envelope Program ✉️💙
A new partnership helping improve communication during law enforcement interactions. The voluntary blue envelope shares important information to support safer, more understanding responses. 💙
Interactions with police can be stressful and unfamiliar, even more so for individuals suffering from intellectual disabilities, cognitive challenges, or neurological injuries. That is why we are proud to announce the launch of our Blue Envelope Program. In partnership with Highland Heights Police Department, Brain Injury Alliance of Northern Kentucky, and NorthKey Community Care IDD Crisis team, the Blue Envelope Program is a localized communication support tool used during law enforcement interactions to help individuals who may have communication, sensory, or cognitive challenges.
Participants in this program will be provided with information to give officers during an interaction to inform them of the type of conditions they suffer from, allowing officers to better understand if the individual may require certain accommodations, such as additional time to process questions, sensitivity to flashing lights or loud sounds, or assistance related to a medical or cognitive condition. Participation in this program is completely voluntary.
Thank you so much to the other organizations who collaborated with us to get this initiative started. For more information on this program you can contact Police Social Worker Kelly Pompilio at (859)635-4126 or kpompilio@alexandriaky.org.
