💙 April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day! 💙
A day that we wear blue to celebrate all of the uniquely wonderful people with autism.

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurological difference that affects how a person communicates, interacts, and experiences the world. Every person with autism is different, with their own strengths, challenges, and ways of seeing things. Today, we honor their uniqueness and promote understanding, acceptance, and support for everyone on the spectrum.

Students from Newton and Alcovy High Schools recently attended the Roosevelt Warm Springs Transition Fair, where they explored post-secondary opportunities for students with disabilities.
Roosevelt Warm Springs (RWS), a residential vocational training program operated by the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, prepares young adults for employment and independence through hands-on training, career pathways, and industry-recognized certifications. Students also benefit from real-world externships and strong post-graduation support.
Our students also learned about the full campus experience, including dorm living, recreation, and strong career and post-graduation support services.
We are so proud of our high school students for representing our district with curiosity, respect, and purpose.

What happens after students with disabilities leave high school? Join us for a webinar designed to help families understand the transition to adulthood and how schools and families can work together to support a successful future.

During this session, we’ll explore post-school outcomes like employment, continuing education, and independent living, and why this information is important for improving transition services. We’ll also break down Georgia’s Indicator 14 survey, what it tells us about students’ experiences after graduation, and how schools use this data to strengthen transition planning.

Families will leave with practical ideas for supporting their student’s goals, building strong partnerships with schools, and connecting with community resources early so students are better prepared for life after high school.
