Research reveals that overworking (50 hours or more a week) can lead to structural changes in the brain that are similar to those that occur during chronic trauma.

These structural changes are noted particularly in areas associated with emotional regulation and executive function. These changed are the brain’s neuroadaptive response to chronic stress and can even have lasting effects on cognitive performance and emotional well being.

These changes are due to chronic stress and lack of sleep, which are both characteristics of overwork. Stress and fatigue can alter neurotransmitter release and cause other physiological changes that may lead to anatomical changes in the brain.

In one particular study, researchers compared the brain scans of 110 healthcare workers, some of whom worked more than 52 hours a week, to those who worked standard hours.

The researchers found that those who worked more hours had significant changes in 17 brain regions including those responsible for executive functions like working memory and problem solving, and for managing emotions.

Our Story

About me: My name is Mike Tassin and I thank you for visiting my website. I am a Marriage and family therapist in the State of Louisiana and Washington state. I am a husband, father, a therapist, teacher, coach, professional; consultant, among many other roles in the community. One role I am extremely proud of is my service to our great country, and a veteran of the United States Army. I served as Sergeant with eight years’ experience and tours of duty around the globe. I am passionate to serve all people who need help, and my military experience gives me greater insight into active military, veterans, and their family’s life style and culture. My Experience Throughout my career I have worked with adults and children in community mental health centers and in a private practice setting. My work includes individual, martial and couples therapy, trauma counseling, premarital counseling, and career counseling. I have worked with those with depression, Anxiety, ADHD, relationship issues, PTSD and other personal and psychological needs. I am experienced in assisting with issues around trauma both abroad and at home. Counseling is a wonderful tool to gain the support needed to build strong lasting relationships with your family, spouse, children, partners and others in your life. My Business We have recently opened our Covington Louisiana location. We are also offering Telehealth sessions to Washington state as well.

I ended my Military service 2008; Since 2009, I have worked in the education, training, counseling and consultation field. I worked with people from all walks of life and cultures at different local not for profits and private practice setting. Although I have firsthand knowledge and experience serving the military and veteran community; I have extensive experience working with non-military clients too. My therapeutic background is well rounded having assisted people with severe and persistent mental illness who were dependent on medication, to children who were in the foster care system and needing help adjusting to their new environment. I have worked with children who had behavior troubles at home and school, and those diagnosed with ADHD and other labels. I have assisted clients with career and executive coaching, career testing, job search and placement strategies. During this time, I have worked with couples seeking premarital counseling and those wanting to improve their relationship and family life. I am an experienced, versatile, and outcome based professional with a variety of experience and specialty in a number of areas. I love collaboration and approach each therapy relationship as collaboration for your benefit.
