We'd like to send a huge thank you to St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 5 for their recent donation to support pediatric sensory bags as part of St. Tammany Health System's Autism Initiative! ❤

Each sensory bag is filled with tools that help ease anxiety and increase communication for individuals experiencing prevention of a sensory avoidance or meltdown caused by overstimulation due to a high stress situation. They are custom-curated and include items like earmuffs, fidget spinners and poppers, communication boards and books, and additional tools.

Today is World Autism Day! 💜

Established in 2007, the United Nations designated April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day to promote the full realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms for autistic individuals, ensuring their equal participation in society.

At St. Tammany Health System, we are working hard to do our part to better care for pediatric patients in our community with autism as six of our pediatric service lines hold a Certified Autism Center designation from the IBCCES.

We don't just want to become autism friendly, we want to be autism competent. Learn more about what STHS is doing to better support our patients, and learn how you can get involved and support this initiative for our community.
