This Thanksgiving, someone’s absence will linger in the room.
A quiet, empty chair will hold a story only your heart understands.
This Thanksgiving, a door will stay closed for someone you wish could walk through it just once more.
And someone will try to make a dish that never turns out quite the same without the person who once stood beside them in the kitchen.
This Thanksgiving, old memories will rise like the scent of cinnamon and warm pies,
because the ones who helped create those memories aren’t here to make new ones.
This Thanksgiving, laughter will blend with tears,
passed around as naturally as the rolls and the gravy.
There will be soft whispers of “I miss them,”
and silent thoughts tucked behind brave smiles.
There will be moments when you reach for a phone call no one can answer anymore.
Hearts will gather around the table with full plates but tender spaces,
surrounded by people who are grieving, remembering, and holding on.
There will be extra hugs.
Extra “I love you’s.”
More pictures taken, now that everyone knows how priceless a photograph truly is.
And maybe someone will speak a name that’s been in Heaven for years,
because love doesn’t disappear, even when the person does.
This Thanksgiving, many will hold grief in one hand and gratitude in the other—
trying to celebrate, trying to stay thankful,
even while longing for the table to look the way it used to.
So this Thanksgiving, hold your people a little tighter.
Be present for every moment.
Say the words.
Take the picture.
Because love is what causes the ache—
and love is what makes the day worth cherishing. 🦃🧡🕊️
