Parenting tip: you don't need to be referee for your kids' squabbles... whew!

Sibling conflict is natural and builds skills in conflict resolution, communication, problem solving, and social interaction.

I'm defiant. Ask anyone in my family 🤭.

As a kid, I refused help and instruction. But I just wanted power.

As an adult, I sometimes refuse to surrender when I can't handle it all. But I just want to have control.

And as a mama, the more resistance I have, the harder the time we have. But I just want things to be a certain way so that I can feel good enough as a parent.

Have you ever felt that? At times, letting go feels impossible. Because it seems as if shame is waiting on the other side.

The truth is, I know how hard it is to break a pattern.

I know the deep fears we have as parents that govern our actions and damage our relationship with our kids over time.

When you face what you struggle with, you can deal with your kid's struggles much better.

This is exactly the kind of healing we do in The Parent Mastery Process, my 10-week parenting transformation program. And is why I designed it to give you more than just ways to respond better to your child.

It was created to awaken a level of self awareness within you that is the path to lasting change. So that your child can get close to you and enjoy a loving, secure relationship with you.

When I believe my kid is trying to make me miserable, is doing this TO me, is preventing me from doing what I need to do... my behaviors are reactive, serious, trying to cut corners.

When I believe that my kid is resilient, resourceful, good, and that anything is possible... my behaviors are involvement, curiosity, playful, I WANT to see her through because I'm excited for what we can do together.

Why is this important? Because choosing the good beliefs makes it possible for your kid to look back as an adult and say that you stayed connected with them during their most difficult moments.

This is the deep work we do inside the Parent Mastery Process, my 10-session program for complete parenting transformation.

Parenting tip: creating tradition in the home is an antidote to peer pressure and looking to others for confirmation of one's worth. You don't have to succumb to a disjointed, distracted way of life. Hold the value of tradition close, as it helps your kids develop the ability to tolerate emotions better, seek positive relationships, and enjoy meaningful conversations. Where to start? Catch my interview with WVUE FOX 8 for simple tips for starting and carrying traditions and their benefits at my Youtube channel at Christina Carter Parenting.

I miss being messy, don't you?

Not the mess I live in that others make. But making my own mess.

I live in a state of trying to keep everything tidy or else everything will fall apart and I won't know how to put it all back together.

I want that kind of freedom. To dig my hands in food with abandon like my daughter does. To beat on something. To be wild, pick flowers, roll in the grass, dance like a fool.

The thing is, I know what kids want and need. And playing at this level floods kids with safety, oxytocin, security, jubilance, creativity, possibility... pure elation.

And the behavior that follows? Not the kind we work so hard to avoid. It's cooperation, altruism, problem-solving, and so much more.

I say let the messy out.

Triggers will always turn up. Struggles, stress, setbacks - are inevitable. That unleash the unresolved, quiet, lingering pain that's just beneath the surface.

You don't need tools to avoid it. You need tools to feel safe in it. It's time to give trust a chance.

I was often described as calm. But the truth was, much of the time I was in collapse.

Covertly dysregulated. With performance and perfectionism as my only tools.

To the grown children who are now adults and parents feeling anxious, uncomfortable with difficult feelings, scared, longing for support and acceptance... I am you.

And I was no better off than you when I was looking calm.

Because I had very little skills rooted in real security to pass along to those after me.

Whether you're quietly suffering or outwardly struggling, our kids absorb this. They adopt our nervous system.

And we need something better for them. Something more stable and reliable than willpower.

A tool set I now help parents cultivate that focuses on beliefs, nervous system, and deep self-acceptance. One that you can be proud to practice in front of your kids.

No matter what's going on, being there in it with your child is what means most to them.

Not that you had the answers.

Not that you had it tidy.

Not that you had it all done.

It's that you were there, and real, with all the mess and frustration, but with an open heart.
