Fruit of self control! Staying calm when your flesh says everything but ♥️

When you stay calm in the face of your teen's sass, rudeness, or eye-rolling disrespect, it’s basically a superpower. Not because it’s easy (it’s not), but because calm sends the powerful message to your teen: I’m in control, and I’m safe to talk to.

Your calm keeps the situation from escalating and turning it into a full-blown power struggle. It models emotional regulation, which is so critical because your example is teaching your teen how to handle and respond - even when emotions run high. Most importantly, it preserves your connection with your teen. (No one ends up winning in a heated argument.) A calm response says, I see your big feelings, but I’m not afraid of them, and I’m not going anywhere.

One last IF (from my 18-24 yo group) we have to remember! God doesn’t force us to listen and He also doesn’t expect perfection. But if you refuse to listen He is also pretty clear- don’t disregard His advice and wonder why you are still in the dark, with no voice and tripping over obstacles…..But always remember He is and wants to be there♥️
