Chin filler can be a game-changer for facial balance, but it’s also one of the easiest areas to overcorrect if technique and planning aren’t precise. Here are the most common chin filler mistakes we see (and avoid) at TBH:

Treating the chin alone. This can exaggerate surrounding shadows.

A balanced result usually requires assessing the full lower face (jawline, perioral area, profile) so the chin supports overall harmony, not just projection.
Ignoring muscle activity

If the mentalis/DAO are overactive, movement can distort shape and create dimpling or heaviness. In some cases, strategic neuromodulator support helps the filler sit and move more naturally.

Overfilling or placing product too superficially
Too much volume, or the wrong plane can lead to a “pointy,” heavy, or lumpy look. Chin filler should be structural, controlled, and built in the correct depth.

This patient initially came in for lips, however after a facial assessment we decided that her chin and chin shadow would need to be addressed as well.

Why treating multiple areas together matters:
• Structure works as a system midface support can soften lower-face shadows, and chin/jaw support can refine profile without overfilling.
• Better symmetry + proportion small adjustments in a few key areas create a more balanced outcome than overcorrecting one spot.
• Smoother transitions and treating the “cause” (support) vs just the “symptom” (folds/lines) keeps results seamless.
