🤒 Sick Days & Diabetes: What You Need to Know 🤒
Even a simple cold or fever can make blood sugar levels harder to control—and that can lead to serious health problems.

Here’s what to do when you're sick:

🍽️ Stick to your normal meal plan as much as possible
💧 Drink non-caffeinated liquids every hour, if you can
📝 Track everything:
– What you eat and drink
– Blood sugar levels every 4 hours
– Ketone readings every 4 hours (if you take insulin)

📞 Call your doctor or clinic if you:
🚫 Can’t eat or drink
🤢 Are vomiting or have diarrhea
💊 Are too sick to take your diabetes medicine
📉 Can’t control your blood sugar or have ketones

Your health is too important to guess—reach out for help if you're unsure what to do.

💬 Let’s support each other!
✅ What’s your go-to comfort food when you’re sick?
💡 Any tips that help you stay on track during sick days?

Stigma in autism is often fueled by misinformation—false or misleading claims that distort public understanding and reinforce harmful stereotypes.

Misinformation That Fuels Autism Stigma

· Vaccines cause autism. This myth originated from a discredited 1998 study and has been thoroughly debunked by global health authorities. Yet it persists, leading to fear and blame.

· Autism is a mental illness. Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition, not a mental illness. Mislabeling contributes to misunderstanding and marginalization.

· Autistic people lack empathy or emotion. Many autistic individuals experience deep empathy and emotional connection, though they may express it differently. This myth leads to social exclusion and misjudgment.

· Autism is caused by bad parenting or trauma. These outdated theories have no scientific basis. Autism has neurological and genetic roots, not behavioral causes.

· Autistic individuals are all either geniuses or severely disabled. Autism is a spectrum. Abilities and support needs vary widely, and this binary view erases the diversity of autistic experiences.

Forest County Potawatomi Health and Wellness Center recently launched a new initiative: The Penothés (small children) Project, led by the Autism Support Team (AST). Contact our team for more information!

Su***de is a major public health concern in the United States, ranking as the second leading cause of death among young people
ages 10 to 24. Early detection is a critical prevention strategy which is why we now have the ASQ (Ask Su***de-Screening
Questions) tool available for our providers to help identify when patients are at risk for su***de. The ASQ Screening is a rapid,
psychometrically sound 4-item screening tool for all pediatric and adult patients. With the ASQ tool, providers can ask directly
about suicidal thoughts in a safe setting—and given the chance to save a life.
