It’s always the box, isn’t it!? 🤣

But truthfully, this is a great example of how we approach play-based learning. No script. No “right way.” Let the imagination lead.

In ABA, and in life in general, we don’t need fancy supplies or trendy toys to build skills. We just need connection, creativity, and maybe a cardboard box! 📦

Last night I was writing an appeal because care for one of our clients was denied.

It’s a part of owning a clinician-led practice that most people never see.

❗️Defending clinical decisions that are already sound.
❗️Writing detailed appeals reports.
❗️Going back and forth for weeks to explain and re-explain the same recommendations.

Advocacy takes time.
But time costs money.

The hard truth is… appeals don’t scale. 🤷

Many large systems are built for efficiency and growth, which often means designing around anything that slows things down.

Appeals. Extra documentation. Individualized recommendations that might get questioned.

It’s easier to play it safe. Recommend only what’s unlikely to be denied. Stay under the radar.

But that’s how care slowly gets diluted. Not all at once. Just small compromises over time. ⏳

I share this be transparent about how we choose to operate. We prioritize the time it takes to advocate and individualize care not only because our clients deserve it, but because protecting the integrity of this field matters. 📈

The standards we hold today shape what families have access to tomorrow.

Because care should be individualized.
Not optimized for approvals. ⚠️

Hot take... 🔥 🔥 🔥

If you’ve ever been told your child needs 40 hours a week before anyone has even met them… that’s not individualized care.

There’s a difference between a clinical minimum and a business minimum.

Yes, research shows that higher treatment hours can correlate with stronger outcomes for some children. BUT - intensity recommendations should follow an evaluation, 👏not 👏a 👏preset 👏rule.

ABA has always been built on individualized treatment. That includes individualized hours.

⭐️ We do need enough weekly frequency and consistency for therapy to be meaningful and effective. ⭐️ From there, therapy recommendations should be based on your child’s needs, goals, and what works for your family.

Some children need comprehensive programs. Others thrive with focused, lower-intensity support. ✨

One size doesn’t fit all. And it never should. Clinical decisions should be made by clinicians - not business models. 🔥

“Pairing” is one of those ABA terms that can sound a little clinical. 🤔

But in practice, it's simple - and very intentional.

It means connection first. Play first. Trust first.

You’ll usually notice it most in the beginning, when sessions might look like we’re just playing.

That’s 👏exactly👏the 👏point.

We’re not coming in and jumping straight into work. Because learning doesn’t happen when a child feels unsure or pressured.

So we slow down.

We keep demands low, follow their lead, and focus on building trust first. ✨

Not to push compliance. But to create a safe, positive environment where your child actually wants to learn and engage.

Connection isn’t extra. It’s the foundation. 🏠

Weekend reminder: Play *is* productive.🧠

Not every moment needs a plan.

Sometimes play looks like doing puzzles or building towers. Or it might be embracing the mess for a DIY pizza night. It's even simply a silly tickle sesh while snuggled up on the couch. 🤍

However you play today, you're doing the most important work of all. ✨
