Richard A. DeAngelis

Richard DeAngelis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy defined by faith, family, service, and quiet joy.

Born to Romeo DeAngelis and Diane DeAngelis (Pelland), Richard lived a life rooted in love and responsibility. First and foremost, he was a family man. He devoted his life to his wife, Paula DeAngelis; his children, Jared DeAngelis and Jessica Burns; his cherished grandchildren, Mia DeAngelis, Caleb DeAngelis, Zachery Pereira, Bianca Burns, and Sophia Burns; his brother, Romeo (Raymond) DeAngelis, and late sister Anita Sousa. He took great pride in his family and found deep joy in being present for both the ordinary and extraordinary moments of their lives.

In his younger years, Richard was a gifted athlete. He was an All Class football player at Barrington High School and went on to play at the University of Rhode Island. An injury brought his football career to an early end, after which he went on to complete his education at Bryant University, graduating in 1973. The discipline and resilience he developed through sports stayed with him throughout his life.

Richard was a devoted member of the Armenian Evangelical Church of Rhode Island, where he was active in church affairs and known as a loving, reliable presence to all who knew him. He especially enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the church’s annual Christmas celebrations, a role that reflected his warmth, generosity, and playful spirit.

Richard was an avid fisherman who loved being on the water and took great pleasure in teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish, patiently passing down both skill and tradition. He was deeply involved in his children’s lives—coaching his son’s baseball teams and never missing his wrestling matches or a chance to attend his daughter’s soccer, basketball, or softball games. His love of sports continued on through his grandchildren.

Richard was very involved in his son’s Boy Scout troop, Troop 20. He loved being hands on in the woods, teaching and learning whenever he could. He made many life long friendships while scouting with son and will be greatly missed by those men that felt like family.

Known as a true “Mr. Fix-It,” Richard could repair nearly anything. Whether working around the house or helping a neighbor, he was always willing to drop what he was doing to lend a helping hand. His generosity and dependability left a lasting impression on those around him.

One of his greatest joys was opening his backyard pool every summer, a tradition he began in 1991. More than three decades later, the pool remained crystal clear thanks to his dedication, becoming a gathering place for family, laughter, and lifelong memories. He also enjoyed making numerous “dump runs” with Zack that was usually followed by a stop to Wein-O-Rama.

Richard had a lifelong love of animals, both domestic and wild, and showed the same affection toward his children and grandchildren’s pets as he did his own. In true 1970s fashion, he also took special pride in his Corvette, a favorite possession that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship, style, and a little fun.

One of Richard’s most cherished routines was picking up his granddaughter each Sunday to attend church with him—a simple yet meaningful tradition that spoke to his faith, devotion, and love for family.

He is survived by his wife, Paula DeAngelis; his son, Jared DeAngelis, and daughter-in-law, Caitlin DeAngelis; his daughter, Jessica Burns, and son-in-law, Zachary Burns; and his beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Romeo (Raymond) DeAngelis, and was the brother of the late Anita Sousa.

Richard DeAngelis will be remembered for his steady presence, servant’s heart, athletic spirit, and the countless quiet ways he made life better for those around him.

His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 31st at 9:30 a.m. from the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at the Armenian Evangelical Church, 180 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Animal Shelter, 200 Terminal Road, Providence, RI 02905.

Joanne P. (Ionata) Marinelli

96, of Johnston, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Marinelli and the late Pasquale Squizzero. Born in Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinando and Catherina (Della Cioppa) Ionata.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia C. Yanikoski and her husband Joseph; cherished grandson Michael Yanikoski and his wife Jennifer and dear great granddaughter Victoria. She was the sister of the late William O. Ionata and his wife, Doris, and cherished aunt of nephews David and Paul Ionata.

Joanne kept busy all her adult life. After completing high school she hoped to move to NYC and be an opera singer but that was not practical, so she soon entered the workforce as a ‘Kelly Girl’. This and other part-time jobs sustained her energetic personality during the 1950’s and 60’s as she and Pasquale raised their daughter, Patricia. She was briefly a Brownie leader for Patricia’s Girl Scout troop.

Her excellent work ethic propelled her to a position as Executive Secretary at the National Trading Company in Providence, where she worked for decades. Her husband Pasquale passed away suddenly when she was only 53years old. She began dating again, eventually meeting and marrying Robert Marinelli. She and Bob travelled often and enjoyed attending music recitals of her young grandson Michael.

After retiring, she missed the ‘action’ and became a secret shopper for banks and businesses in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, into her late 80s. She also attended casting calls for television and cinema extras for local shoots, appearing in several productions including Disney’s “Underdog” movie.

She settled down a bit in her 90s, enjoying going out for her daily Dunkin coffee, meeting new gentlemen callers, and occasionally driving to the Boston area to visit with her family including young great-granddaughter Tori.

Raised during the depression (she was born one week after the infamous 1929 stock market crash) she epitomized the Greatest Generation’s reputation for being feisty and unapologetically independant, in an era when that was unexpected of women. She will be missed.

VISITING HOURS will be Tuesday, December 30th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

Rosa (Ragno) Giarrusso

age 89, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Cranston, Rhode Island, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Vieste, Italy, to the late Giovanni Ragno and Francesca Cariglia. Rosa carried her southern Italian roots with pride throughout her life.

In 1966, she immigrated to the United States with her beloved husband, the late Leonardo Giarrusso, to whom she was devoted for 62 years, and their five young sons. Together, they built a life grounded in family, tradition, hard work, and unconditional love. Rosa spent most of her life in Johnston, Rhode Island, later dividing her time in Hallandale, Florida, where her warmth and presence were felt by all who knew her.

Rosa was the proud and loving mother and cherished mother in law of Angelo and his wife Gina of Narragansett; Giovanni and his wife Doreen of Scituate; Matteo and his wife Anne of Warwick; Antonio and his wife Janet of Jamestown; and Franco and his wife Karen of Wakefield. Her family was her greatest joy and life’s proudest accomplishment. Her boys affectionately called her “Sweet,” a name that became synonymous with who she was: gentle, nurturing, generous, and deeply beloved by all. That sweetness extended far beyond her immediate family—Rosa was cherished by her 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren (predeceased grandson, Lennie Giarrusso), all of whom were blessed by her love and endless hugs and kisses. She was the dear sister of Carmela Savastano and Nicasio Ragno of Milan, Italy, and the late Maria Ragno.

Known as the “Mayor of Parker Dorado,” in Hallandale Beach, Florida, Rosa had a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome, to know her was to be family. You could arrive at her home morning, noon, or night, and you would leave stuffed to the brim with the best meal you ever had in your life. To be loved by Rosa was to be fed—abundantly, joyfully, and whether or not you were hungry. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and her Sunday dinner tables, holiday gatherings, and everyday meals were legendary, filled with incredible food, laughter, and generations gathered together.

Rosa embodied the true spirit of a matriarch—selfless, strong, nurturing, and resilient. She was both tender and a powerhouse: a woman who could generously care for her family while also outwalking anyone who dared to join her on the beach. She hosted holidays with grace, her home, table and heart always overflowing with an outpouring of love.

An expert crochet and knitter, Rosa created baby blankets, scarves, hats, and headbands and more for her family. Her selflessness extended beyond her home—she knitted countless scarves for the U.S. military, and other church organizations, donating many bags filled with her handmade work, each stitch a quiet act of love and service for this country she loved so much.

Above all, Rosa created a legacy—one rooted in strong values, deep family bonds, generosity, faith, and love expressed through nourishment and presence. She was The Italian Nonna to all, a second mother to many, and a friend to anyone lucky enough to cross her path. Her influence will continue to ripple through the generations she raised, loved, and fed so well

Rosa Giarrusso will be remembered for her strength, her sweetness, her unmatched hospitality, and the profound love she gave so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on at every family table, in every shared meal, and in the countless lives she touched.

Even in her later years and especially while residing at Cra - Mar Meadows since June 2025, Rosa formed meaningful and loving relationships with all of those around her, fellow residents and staff members. Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to Karen DerBedrosian and the entire staff and residents at Cra -Mar Meadows who became part of our extended family. We would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to Continuum Hospice Care of RI and to our Sister in Law, Debbie Giarrusso for their countless hours of love and support given to our sweet, sweet, sweet mother and the heart of our family.

Her funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Apostles Church, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be held Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.

The Funeral Mass will be LIVESTREAMED via the Nardolillo Funeral Home page.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association of RI, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
