That actually makes things worse for many people.

Over-tension, poor timing, breath holding, scar tissue (C-section or vaginal), chronic stress, fascia restriction, and nervous system dysregulation all interfere with the pelvic floorโ€™s ability to ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฑ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฒ.

If you were told to โ€œhold your breath and pushโ€โ€ฆ thatโ€™s outdated advice.

Yesโ€”there are moments in labor that call for pushing.

But breath holding โ‰  effective pushing.

When you hold your breath, you create a forced valsalva.

That pressure has nowhere to go except downwardโ€”straight into the pelvic floor.

The result?

๐Ÿง  Pelvic floor muscles that should lengthen are told to brace

โ–ซ๏ธFascia loses elasticity instead of supporting the load

โ–ซ๏ธNerves and connective tissue take the hit

โ›”๏ธ Coordination between diaphragm + pelvic floor shuts down

Thatโ€™s not how the body was designed to push.

Effective pushing comes from pressure moving THROUGH the body, not being trapped in it.

The diaphragm, breath, abdomen, and pelvic floor are meant to work togetherโ€”not in opposition.

There are safer, smarter ways to push that:

Arancia is a specialized pelvic health & chronic pain physical therapy practice that helps patients get back to enjoying their life again.
