How can a baby gain weight even when there’s a feeding issue?

Some babies continue to gain weight because they compensate for inefficient feeding. They may feed for very long periods of time or need to feed more frequently because they tire before feeling fully satisfied. While this can help maintain weight gain, it’s tiring for baby and often exhausting or painful for mom — and it’s not sustainable.

In some cases, mothers have a fast letdown or an oversupply. This can mask underlying issues such as tongue-tie, a shallow latch, or other milk-transfer challenges, allowing baby to gain weight at first. But when the breast isn’t fully drained, it can eventually lead to problems like plugged ducts, mastitis, or even a sudden dip in milk supply.

Bottom line: Weight gain alone should not be the only measure of successful breastfeeding. Quality of feeding, comfort, efficiency, and overall well-being matter just as much.

Ever wonder why you’re technically getting enough sleep…but still dragging through the day? 😮‍💨

For many adults and kids, the root cause isn’t the sleep itself, it’s the airway. When the airway isn’t stable at night, your body works overtime just trying to keep things open.
